Any parent with a kid under 5 can tell you that when things get a little too quiet at home, it’s a telltale sign that your “little angel” is up to no good. And if you’ve got two kids under 5? Better stay on your toes! Ohio mom Breana Naylor recently learned this one the hard way when her two toddlers got into some trouble while she was in the other room — but the photographic evidence that’s now going viral has parents everywhere laughing.
Naylor says she was enjoying a few precious moments of freedom one day while her 3-year-old son, Colt, and 2-year-old daughter, Kimber, played in another room. As a mom of two, you can bet she takes full advantage of any spare moment alone that she can. But on this particular day, things took an unexpected turn.
“A few more peaceful minutes pass and I’m like, ‘Fine, I’ll be a responsible parent and check on my kids,’” she jokes when recalling the incident to Mom.com.
That’s when she rounded the corner and saw them both hiding in her closet behind a few of her long dresses.
“I saw the long cut pieces of hair before I saw them,” she shares, before describing how Colt was “holding the scissors up to Kimber’s head and she was sitting very still as if he instructed her to do so.”
OH. MY. GOD.
Every parent lives in fear that their kids will take a pair of scissors to their hair when mom’s not looking — or worse, go to town on someone else’s hair. And here it was, playing out right before this mom’s very eyes.
Except unlike most parents, Naylor immediately saw the humor in it all
“When I saw the damage, I just laughed,” she tells Mom.com. “My husband was pretty upset, though.”
Without missing a beat, she texted her friend and hairstylist Jen Bullock that there was a hair emergency at the Naylor residence, and she was going to need to make a house call.
“We had been chatting earlier in the day about cutting my hair,” she explains, “So I said, ‘Jen, forget about my hair, Kimber needs your help!’”
An hour later, Bullock was on her doorstep with a pair of shears in hand. And before Naylor knew it, her friend and stylist had worked her magic.
And we do mean MAGIC!
Somehow, Bullock managed to turn the haphazard haircut into not only something way better, but also something that seems to fit Kimber perfectly.
“I’m not sure if Kimber realizes how rad she really looks,” her mother says. ”It’s as though her hair matches her spunky personality now, or maybe she’s more spunky because of her rad hair.”
Naylor says this isn’t the only time her kids have gotten into some shenanigans when she’s had her back turned, but usually they’re just “typical toddler things” — like jumping off the back of the living room couch, or climbing the pantry shelves.
Luckily, “there hasn’t been any other heart-attack-inducing behaviors”
Since the whole ordeal went down earlier this month, “before” and “after” photos were shared on Bullock’s Facebook page, where they quickly went viral. Thousands of users commented, liked, and shared the post — and were collectively amazed by Bullock’s handiwork.
“You did a good job!” wrote one one.
“She is rocking that awesome style,” added another.
Naylor says she’s been stunned by how viral the whole thing has become, but is happy it’s given everyone a good laugh. She also says she made sure to give the toddlers a talking to about why you never play with scissors — especially when it comes to someone’s hair. She reports that Colt “definitely understands that he’s not to use scissors unless Mommy is there to supervise” in the future.
