A “heartbroken” Australian man said he was left with no other option than to break up with his girlfriend of nine months after discovering that she was born male. Calling into popular KIISFM radio show The Jackie & Kyle Show, Alex, a 20-year-old from Sydney, said he fell in love with the 25-year-old woman almost immediately and they began an intimate relationship. However, a mutual friend recently let him in on his girlfriend’s secret.
The woman had undergone gender reassignment surgery when she was 18.
When a drunk friend revealed this to Alex, he didn’t believe it at first. However, he later discovered estrogen tablets in the woman’s belongings, proving the claim. “Everything was going well, everything was great, well I thought anyway,” Alex said. “When I found out, honestly I dropped, I didn’t believe him at first, it was mixed emotions, then I still didn’t believe him. So when I confronted her, I actually found her pills, I found her estrogen tablets… I just dropped, I felt cold, I felt angry, there was many emotions in one go.”
Alex says he wouldn’t have “picked” the woman to date had he known she was transgender.
He said he rated her “a solid seven-and-a-half” before he knew her secret but that had she been open about her identity, he never would have given her the time of day despite him being relatively happy with her prior to the truth coming out.
The sex wasn’t any different.
Alex insisted he had no idea his girlfriend was transgender because there was simply no reason to believe she might be. “I didn’t feel anything different. It felt like normal sex. When I confronted her, she was crying, she didn’t know what to say,” he said. “But when you’re in a relationship, you think you could have trust, and at the start of the relationship, she should’ve been upfront and told me.”
Alex dumped the woman because he felt “deceived.”
While he says he never would have entertained dating a transgender woman in the first place, Alex claims the real reason the relationship ended was because of the woman’s dishonesty, which is perhaps a bit more understandable. “I feel deceived… I think that’s a big lie for me, just sort of fake who you were and to not say that in the beginning,” he said.
