Even though Brooke Shields has been out of the public eye for some time now, she has recently returned to the scene to reveal some personal truths that have shed new light on the legendary model and actress of the 1980s. It hasn’t been easy for Shields or her family to be upfront about certain private aspects of her life, but the actress believes that by doing so, she will help others who are going through a similar ordeal.
She grew up in the spotlight.
During her early years, Shields’ face appeared in many advertisements and billboards, which brought her a continuous stream of acting offers. Thanks to her remarkable beauty, she rose to become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors.
As she grew up working on sets for movies like The Blue Lagoon and the contentious Pretty Baby, Shields was the target of media attention, and people witnessed her entire development.
Shields has lived her entire life in the spotlight and in front of the camera, beginning at the age of 11 months. She reigned the 1980s, sweeping magazine covers and serving as the face of numerous significant brands. Even though this gorgeous woman has had a brilliant career as a supermodel and actor, she also faced the darker side of fame, which took a toll on her private life.
However, she eventually capitulated under pressure from the media and a society that sought to monopolize her. For the first time in years, Shields is making a comeback in the entertainment industry as an adult, but not until she gains confidence and acceptance of herself.
“I spent my life owing people things and doing whatever they wanted,” the star said. “And finally I asked myself, ’Who will I be if I don’t allow that anymore?’”
Shields had a few notable relationships before meeting “the one.”
In her upcoming documentary, Brooke Shields opens up about her personal life, particularly her previous romances. The woman attracted the attention of numerous celebrities in the past due to her stunning beauty and popularity. In fact, we can name a few of her past partners that stand out, like John Travolta and Michael Jackson.
“We just felt safe with each other,” said Shields, recounting her time alongside Jackson. “We watched movies and ate candy and laughed at the craziness around us. We loved each other, but it was not at all romantic.”
Despite her many suitors, Shields only married twice throughout her life. The first involved tennis player Andre Agassi. Their 1997 marriage received a lot of attention, but the couple divorced less than 2 years later.
The couple did not discuss the reasons for their breakup at the time, though Shields eventually admitted that she was too immature for such a serious commitment. As she put it, “I still had so much growing up to do.”
Following the dissolution of her previous marriage, Shields moved on and embraced her single life. Nevertheless, she found herself falling for another man much sooner, this time, the right one. In fact, Shields began dating producer Chris Henchy in 2001, and he would later become her second and last husband.
Despite some difficulties along the way, the 2 have remained together through good and terrible times, only growing stronger with the passing years. “If there’s a moment when I’m starting to feel insecure, all he has to do is say, ’You know, you look beautiful,’” she confessed.
2 daughters and a miscarriage
“You may think love will change everything, but it really is different with children. Children don’t necessarily bring you together, they challenge you,” Shields revealed, opening up about how their relationship has changed since welcoming their children.
Shields’ journey to having her 2 daughters was not without its setbacks, including miscarriages. The couple considered multiple options, but none were viable until the couple decided to give it one more shot. “I was about ready to call it quits [...] and Chris said he wasn’t sure he could handle seeing me rip off another estrogen patch in frustration.”
Her struggles came to an end when she gave birth to her first child, Rowan, in 2003, who was followed 3 years later by her sister, Grier. However, between the births of her first and second daughters, Shields’ life wasn’t going so well, as she was struggling with postpartum depression.
“I finally had a healthy beautiful baby girl and I couldn’t look at her,” she revealed. “I couldn’t hold her and I couldn’t sing to her... All I wanted to do was disappear.”
Yet, after many challenges, Shields was able to discover the light and sought treatment from a doctor. The actress claims, “I learned what was going on inside my body and what was going on inside my brain. I learned I wasn’t doing anything wrong to feel that way. That it was actually out of my control.”
Shields is now reflecting on the hardships she had as a young and innocent star.
The actress is now opening up about the struggles she faced in the industry, attempting to dispel some misconceptions about women that she has personally encountered. She faced multiple hardships as a result, some of which were so severe that she started questioning her entire life. “It’s taken me a long time to process it,” she said. “It’s a miracle that I survived.”
She has completely exposed herself to the public, sharing details about her life that not even her daughters were aware of. “I got in trouble with them... because they were mad that I didn’t inform them about everything,” she confessed.
She is unquestionably a stronger and more confident woman now than she was as the young girl in Pretty Baby. She says, “I’m so proud of looking at my body of work and saying, ’I accomplished that, and I kept learning, and I kept growing.’ I’m still here.”
Her narrative and her difficulties should serve as inspiration for those women who are still searching for their own strengths. Shields’ purpose is to make them feel less alone as they face hardships now and in the future. “Everybody processes their own trauma on a different timeline. I want to be an advocate for women to be able to speak their truth.”
