In addition to introducing the world to sadomasochism, the first installment of the Fifty Shades trilogy, published in 2015, also introduced the world to Dakota Johnson and helped define her profile for the following several years.
Johnson says that the making of ‘those gigantic nude films’ that made her famous throughout the world was ‘crazy’.
Third-generation Hollywood beauty Dakota Johnson is the daughter of Don Johnson (Miami Vice) and Melanie Griffith (Working Girl) and the granddaughter of Tippi Hedren (The Birds, Marnie), who inspired Alfred Hitchcock.
At the time of Fifty Shades of Grey, Johnson, aged 33, had only had a few small roles in films including The Social Network (2010) and 21 Jump Street (2012).
She also appears in the follow-up films to Fifty Shades of Grey, 2017’s Fifty Shades Darker and 2018’s Fifty Shades Freed.
Reaction to the film was divided, with the Seattle Times saying, “Fifty Shades of Grey the movie, for the record, is not quite as bad as “Fifty Shades of Grey” the book,” but praising the brown-haired beauty’s performance.
But it hardly amounts to bragging. Fans, however, were quite into the romantic interplay between Johnson and her Northern Irish co-star Jamie Dornan.
“(If I) could choose to meet my fav actors it would be the both of you, awesome!” comments one devoted follower. I experienced every single one of them, and the backstory is breathtaking.
while another agrees, saying, “Those flicks were great. Superb performers.” Johnson, though, reveals that not everything went well behind the scenes while shooting.
“When I am interested in anything, I want to know all there is to know about it. The reason I made those epic nude films.
When I agreed to be a part of this project, I thought we were going to make a whole other film. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Johnson said, “It was also the author of the books.”
As stated by the Guardian, E.L. James, as Erika, the author she is referring to, “was given a lot of power and has used every opportunity to flex that power.”
She possessed the power to direct the flow of creativity at any time of day or night. Johnson said that the novels’ “incredibly cheesy” inner monologue would have to be cut from the film adaptation.
Saying it out won’t do anything. Fight or flight was the norm. Always. I recited a monologue from Persona during my audition and remember thinking, “Oh, this is going to be really special.
” (Ingmar Bergman’s “Persona” is a masterpiece from the ’60s). In a surprising manner, it became something very exceptional. In addition to her role as Anastasia Steele, Johnson said that Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam will portray Christian Grey.
However, Hunnam ultimately had to drop out owing to schedule issues, which enraged Erika to the point that she rejected the screenplay written by Patrick Marber, the playwright and author of Closer, who had adapted her novel for the big screen.
“The producers, too, were pleased.”They thought it was great, you saved our rear ends, you’re a hero,” Marber reported. “And after that, I was let go.”
She details the harsh circumstances and sexual attacks she endured while working with the famed director in her book “Tippi,” which she wrote when she was 93 years old.
Hedren told NPR in 2016 that she wanted out of her contract because the issue had become so bothersome. ‘Well, you can’t,’ he responded.
‘You have your kid to support, and your parents are growing older. They wouldn’t put up with me if I wasn’t pleased, I reasoned. And then he said, “Well, I’ll ruin your career.” “And he did.”
Grandma knew that her granddaughter wouldn’t let things spiral out of hand. In my youth. I was 23. Consequently, it was somewhat terrifying. It became completely out of control.
Johnson went on, “There were many other points of contention. When promoting a film, honesty is out of the question; “I’m proud of what we made in the end and everything turns out the way it’s supposed to, but it was tricky.”
In an effort to save as much of Marber’s screenplay as possible, Dornan, who took over for Hunnam and Johnson, and Sam Taylor-Johnson, who directed the first film but not the others, were brought in.
First, we’d film the scenes for the film that Erika envisioned, and then we’d film our own scenes for the film that we envisioned.

However, the Cha Cha Real Smooth diva claims she does not have any regrets. “In my opinion, there’s no need to feel remorse.
Had I known…I doubt anybody would have done it if they’d realised what they were getting themselves into at the time. Oh, this is crazy, you’d think. I don’t feel any remorse, however.
Film stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson during the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ premiere at Berlin’s Zoo Palast on February 11, 2015 for the 65th Berlinale Festival.
Johnson denied any animosity ever existing between her and Dornan, saying, “There was never a period when we didn’t get along. He’s like a brother to me; I realise it sounds strange.
I adore him to the moon and back. We were a great support system for one another. We had to rely heavily on each other’s confidence and protection.
“We were doing the weirdest things for years,” she added, referring to the more racy sequences, “and we needed to be a team.”
She said, “There are things that I still cannot say because I don’t want to hurt anyone’s career and I don’t want to damage anyone’s reputation.
But both Jamie and I were treated really well,” implying that there is much more that happened on set that the public will not hear, at least from her.
I’m thankful Erika thought enough of me to cast me in those films; she’s a lovely lady. Looking back, she continues, “Look, that was terrific for our careers. How incredible. How fortunate.
However, it was odd. Just plain strange. You must adore Dakota Johnson if you adored either Melanie Griffith or Don Johnson, or both!
Which of her films is your favourite and why? And what do you make of her comments on making Fifty Shades of Grey?
