Lightning striking a father and his kid sent shockwaves across the community. The father was killed instantly, but the youngster made it through the ordeal to see another month.
The tiny kid, who fought heroically for weeks, has also since departed away. Please read on to find out all we can tell you.
Grayson Boggs, 6, and his father, Matthew Boggs, 34, were strolling hand in hand down their Valley Hills driveway when tragedy struck. Both were struck by lightning, which ultimately proved deadly.
Little Grayson managed to survive whereas Matthew passed away instantly. He was whisked away to Temple’s Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Hospital right away.
Even though his prognosis was bad from the start, his loved ones refused to give up hope. The family has started a campaign on GoFundMe to give Grayson the greatest possible chance of survival.
Unfortunately, weeks after the event on May 15th, the small child still showed no signs of recovery, and on June 13th, physicians recommended taking him off life support. Three days later, Grayson had already died.
The tragic event of the 15th of May, 2023, began at 5 o’clock in the evening, when Matthew headed to the bus stop to collect his boys. Elijah broke apart from the two as they stood at the end of the driveway listening to the rumble of the storm
In his memory, Elijah can still see the moment he returned to his father and sibling. At first, he had failed to grasp the gravity of the situation.
“I felt quite anxious. Grayson was “kind of smiling a little bit” when Elijah turned him over, the 11-year-old claimed in an interview.
When I moved my dad over, I saw blood in the centre of his head and his face was already purple, and I saw they weren’t kidding. Angela Boggs, Matthew’s mother, was also there and saw the whole terrible thing happen.
She hurried to her son and grandson’s side, where she was joined by their neighbours as they attempted to provide CPR until the emergency services arrived.
Grayson was said to be physically unharmed below the neck, but physicians were unable to rule out brain injury.
Stephanie Burris, a friend of the family, set up a GoFundMe page and regularly updated donors on Grayson’s progress. From the start, the family knew their son was highly sedated and dependent on a ventilator to keep him alive.
On May 19 they said, “Grayson has experienced a serious anoxic brain damage. Grayson “may never walk, talk, eat, or see again,” according to the doctors.
What it implies for Grayson’s family is that he will need round-the-clock care and regular therapy sessions even when he returns home. The status of the young boy’s health was regularly posted on the fundraising page.
Grayson’s health has been holding steady, but it was considered that he may not improve. The healthcare team for Grayson met with us today for a care conference. The doctors have informed us that Grayson will never recover from his current condition.
Kayla, his mother, took the painful choice to take him off the ventilator and register him as an organ donor. In his dying days, he was visited by friends and relatives of the Boggs family.
Please pray that we can make him as comfortable as possible during this time, and that God will provide healing to him and his loved ones.
“We may not know God’s plan, but we know he has his arms wrapped around Grayson at this time,” Burris wrote of the choice. The next day, Grayson passed away.
The campaign successfully raised $102,000, exceeding its goal by $2,000. What a sad and tragic tale. Our thoughts and prayers are with Grayson and his loved ones as they face this terrible time. Spread the word so that others may express their sympathy.
