Sara Gilbert discovered she was a lesbian while dating Johnny Galecki – he kept it a secret for years

She told Johnny she had been struggling with her identity and he kept her secret.

If only we were all as lucky to have a friend in our life as trustworthy as Johnny Galecki.

In the early 1990s, Sara Gilbert and Johnny Galecki starred alongside each other in the classic TV sitcom Roseanne. Not only did they play a couple on-screen, but they also briefly dated in real life.

However, neither relationship lasted. Gilbert’s and Galecki’s relationship ended shortly after she started coming to terms with her sexuality.

Gilbert revealed the story of her relationship with Galecki during a 2013 episode of The Talk where all the hosts shared one of their biggest secrets.

The actor and co-host shared that while working on Roseanne she and Galecki began dating, but something wasn’t right.

“I thought he was super cute and had a total crush on him,” she said, “and we started dating and he would come over and we would make out and then I would start to get depressed.”

Galecki noticed and thought Gilbert’s reaction had something to do with him. She eventually explained her internal struggle.

“I eventually told him I thought it was about my sexuality, and he was super sweet about it,” she said.

Gilbert was struggling with her identity as a lesbian and what it meant for her future in Hollywood.

“It was something people could have found out about and Johnny, like, no one knew at the show, for years, and Johnny held the secret the whole time,” she said. “And I just felt so scared if it came out, what could happen. Could I lose my career? Would I ever be able to play a straight role again?”

But she didn’t have anything to worry about, Galecki had her back.

And she didn’t need to worry what he thought about her exposing their relationship because even then he told her “Of course. I love you, and I think it’s really important and I’m so proud of you. If you want, I will be there, and I will hold your hand.'”

While both have experienced many changes in their lives, one thing has remained the same for Gilbert and Galecki: their friendship.

Wouldn’t it be great if we all had at least one friend who was as trustworthy and loyal as Johnny Galecki?
