Frederic Forrest’s breakthrough role was opposite Bette Midler in The Rose as Sgt. Huston Dyer. His performance in the part was nominated for an Academy Award.

A calmness had settled over him. On Friday, Forrest reportedly died at his home in Santa Monica. He was in his eightieth year and had been sick for quite some time.

The details surrounding his death are still being kept under wraps. His friends began a GoFundMe to cover his caring expenses back in September 2022.

The funds would be used, as stated in the campaign’s description, to “keep Fredric’s home care going strong for the past six months by paying carers to be with him 8 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Forrest’s character, a sergeant in the Army who has gone AWOL, falls in love with hers. The film depicts a partnership that has weathered several storms.

Bette Midler and Frederic Forrest both received Oscar nods for their roles in Mark Rydell’s The Rose, for which the director received a total of four nominations.

Editing and sound work on the picture were also recognised with nominations. Forrest received a Golden Globe nod for his work in The Rose.

His career featured several notable works, such as When the Legends Die (his first film), Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, One From the Heart.

 

Tucker: The Man and His Dream, The Missouri Breaks, It Lives Again, The Two Jakes, and Point Blank, among others. All the King’s Men was his last film to be released in theatres.

 

The actor also has an extensive television acting resume, with roles in shows including Lonesome Dove, 21 Jump Street, and Larry among others.

He entered this world on December 23, 1936, in the town of Waxahachie, Texas. Even though it was a tiny town, he made sure to visit all three of the movie theatres whenever he could.

As a child, I used to put on theatrical productions. The movie was our only option. Since there was no TV, we went to the movies often,” he said in an interview.

Waxahachie, Texas, had three movie theatres. Actors used to make the rounds with the movies, so we sometimes saw some cowboy stars stop by.
