Scott Baio has joined the leagues of Hollywood personalities who are leaving California behind. His reasons for leaving have been detailed by the actor.
Keep reading to learn more about why the actor is calling it quits with the state he has called home for so many years.
Scott Baio’s most notable role perhaps has been as Chachi Arcola on the television series Happy Days. The actor took to Twitter to announce his departure from the Golden state he has called home for the last many years.
The reason the actor cited for his decision was the growing homeless population problem in Los Angeles.
The actor has spent the last 45 years in Los Angeles but it seems like he has had his fill of the city and state. He tweeted, “After 45 years, I’m making my way to finally ‘exit stage right’ from California. The most recent survey conducted by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority found approximately 69,000 people experiencing homelessness in L.A. County and 41,000 in the city in 2022.’”

A lot of people shared their thoughts about Baio’s decision to leave. Some understood the actor’s motivation. ”Good for you, Scott,” a Twitter user commented.” You and your family will be much happier. Besides, if CA ever changes, you can go back.”
Another Twitter user wrote, “Wonderful sir. Hope you find a place where yall can be happy and comfortable. Have a little space left in Texas if you want it. We would love to have you here.”
While another person added echoing similar sentiments to Baio, “Congrats. If and when my son leaves we are out of here too. Been here since 1970 it is not the same beautiful state it once was.”
Others were not as supportive. “Considering you’ve never done anything to help out in the situation after getting wealthy off of us, we will be glad to see you go,” a Twitter user replied in anger. Another person added their experience, “Happy Californian here, especially knowing you are leaving!!”
Others poked fun at the actor, with one user writing, “With your lack of work over the last 20 + years – are you one of the homeless?”
“You exited from relevancy about 30 years ago, who cares?” another person added.
“It’ll be easy to pack up your tent and shopping cart,” another user unhappy with his tweet wrote. “Cause you’ve been out of a career for 40 years too!”
The 62-year-old actor is very serious with his word, having listed his Woodland Hills residence for sale. The home is valued at $3.85 million. It is a spacious property that spans 6,300 square feet and contains five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, and a home theater. The home was purchased in 2010 for $1.85 million
Scott Baio is simply joining the long list of Hollywood stars who have left California for other states. In the last few years, big names such as Matthew McConaughey, Joe Rogan, and Mark Wahlberg have all moved away from California.
In December 2020, McConaughey announced his intention to move back to his home state of Texas. His reasons for moving had to do more with his wish for his children to grow up with the same ‘values’ as he did and also be closer to his family.
Joe Rogan made a similar move in August 2020. His reason for moving his family was because of the “insane” Los Angeles traffic and high cost of living in the city., The famed podcast host also moved to Texas. In April 2021, Mark Wahlberg sold his Beverly Hills mansion for $30 million and moved to Ohio. The actor owns a Chevrolet dealership in the state and also has family in the area which might have prompted his decision.
