Relationships may not always be roses and butterflies behind closed doors. People may more easily identify to a realistic.
Depiction of ordinary living in a long-term relationship than the idealised depictions of such relationships that are common on social media and in Hollywood films.
It doesn’t make being in a relationship any less exciting or beautiful; on the contrary, love is all around us if we take the time to look for it.
Amanda Oleander, an artist based in Los Angeles, creates humorous paintings that depict the ordinary.
Ways in which people display their love for one another, such as popping pimples, sobbing together, and going without shaving or trousers.
You’ll see why this artist’s touching snapshots of daily life have attracted over a million followers on Instagram. Don’t forget to look at the other adorable drawings that Oleander has posted on.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander She is showing a personal and authentic side of relationships, one that isn’t always so spectacular.
By drawing from her own romantic connection with her now-husband, to whom she has been married for over a year, and true tales of individuals around her.
What makes her work so endearing are the ideas that originate straight from her own personal experiences.
Oleander has a distinct style that manages to portray the sincerity and emotions we feel in our everyday lives via the use of rich details and subtle humour. The artist says her work is colourful and figurative.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander The artist confided in us that she finds the secret actions of individuals fascinating.
Her pictures are heartfelt and realistic, depicting everyday situations that demonstrate how easy it is to fall in love.
Making art is a method for me to save a genuine instant in time that was never taken; and even if it were, knowing we were being photographed may distort the experience.
Being a fly on the wall while looking at my artwork. I’m not trying to win over an audience or draw inspiration from things I haven’t experienced or seen in my own life.
I am drawing inspiration from the most genuine and authentic parts of myself and my life experiences.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander “I think it’s important to share the reality of relationships for many reasons,” Oleander explains.
It’s possible that someone else’s reality in a relationship is very different from my own, or that it’s quite similar.
I believe it’s significant because some people may find solace in it, and others may feel that they’ve never had love like that before, and the artwork gives them hope for the future.
Some people may feel like they’re being observed. I believe that everyone’s reaction to art will vary based on his or her unique set of experiences, but that what’s really essential is that it evokes emotion in its viewers.

And I quote: “He really adores it. He comes in to see my finished artwork every day, and he’s just as excited about my 600th painting of us as he was about my 6th.
Seeing how much joy it causes him to look at artwork depicting us together is really touching and inspiring to me.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander Even if you’re “forever” single, you may still find yourself in Amanda’s art since her whimsical pictures cover more than just romance and long-term relationships.
She also often, and realistically, discusses different forms of love, including those between people, between people and their pets, and between people and themselves.
She doesn’t shy away from showing her female characters as they truly are, whether that’s worn out.
With hair in all the wrong places, dealing with an ingrown hair crisis, or something else entirely. Many of her drawings contain hidden stories and symbolic meanings.
They muse on universal issues, like the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as more personal ones, including coming to terms with one’s own identity and developing.
As a person amanda often asks readers to speculate on the meaning of her pictures before she explains them.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander Finding her true artistic calling was Oleander’s greatest achievement in life, albeit she had always enjoyed art.
The only constant in life is that it is never the same. My artwork is intrinsically linked to my life experiences, thus I’m never at a loss for material. Painting and drawing provide me much joy, and I like doing both very much.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander The artist gave us a tour of her studio and explained how she came up with the ideas for her hand-drawn pictures.
When I get a brilliant idea, I immediately jot it down in my thoughts notebook. While drifting off to sleep, inspiration often strikes, prompting me to jump up and jot it down.
I usually have a lengthy array of thoughts (life experiences) on hand. I go to my workstation, look over the list.
And then choose one to draw. First, I sketch it out in pencil, then I trace it in pen, and last I colour it in with markers.

Relatable-Couple-Relationships-Illustrations-Part3-Amanda-Oleander Given that authenticity is key to Oleander’s rising fame, the artist offers sound advise to aspiring creators on how to maintain their integrity:
“Make art about things that matter to you, based on insights that emerge from deep inside your heart. People will want to mould you into their image, especially if you put your work out there for the world to see.
You’ll get requests to draw things people want to see, individuals that look like them, and things they wish they could draw.
You can’t be yourself if you spend all your time listening to other people. Make art that makes you happy without worrying about what other people think. Those that click will stay, and those who don’t may go their own ways.
People often ask me to illustrate topics that I know little to nothing about, such as rare illnesses or other cultures.
My art would be less genuine if I tried to impress other people. Don’t put yourself in that position. Each person has a different background and experience that should be reflected in their art. To be an artist is to live, and from that living to make art.
