On Friday night, an America’s Got Talent star passed away at the tender age of forty-four from undisclosed causes. The talented actor, Zuri Craig, who acted in several Tyler Perry plays to date lost his life according to an update shared by his family on his ZoReMi Entertainment Instagram account on Sunday, two days after he lost his life that previous Friday.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the transition of our beloved son, brother, and friend, Zuri Craig,” his family announced via Instagram on Sunday. “We thank you in advance for your prayers. Please honor our privacy during this unimaginable time of mourning. Official details to follow.”
Zuri skyrocketed to fame thanks to his performances on America’s Got Talent. Zuri and his singing partner, Jeffrey Lewis, rocked the judges during the reality show’s tenth season earning them passage into the grand finals for their amazing talent from their singing group, which was called The CraigLewis Band.
Zuri’s sudden death came as quite a surprise. He and his singing partner were scheduled to perform at The King’s Fest on October 30, 2022, at the MCHS Gymnasium in Camilla, Georgia. However, something caused Zuri to pass away and the show will now be canceled.
In addition to his work with his singing duo, Zuri Craig also produced the play Soul Food Live, which will open on November 20, 2022, at the Center Stage Theater in Atlanta, Georgia.
Prior to his appearance on America’s Got Talent, Zuri made a name for himself as an actor playing on stage in the musical Madea’s Big Happy Family. He played the role of seventeen-year-old sixth grader Donnie in the Tyler Perry play that was staged at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood back in 2010.
In another Madea performance, Zuri Craig portrayed Madea’s virginal son Japan Mansell for the musical A Madea Christmas, which was performed at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta in 2011.
Prior to his passing, Zuri Craig completed his final acting job, which was voicing the preacher in OurSomewhere Digital Products’ podcast, The Color Purple Audio Experience: A Benefit for Black Womxn, which premiered on November 26.
Zuri Craig was an amazing talent who is gone too soon. He will be missed by many.
Zuri Craig is survived by his parents and siblings. His cause of death has not yet been released to the public.
Zuri officially lost his life on October 21, 2022. He was only forty-four years old at the time of his death. His family has not publicly released the cause of Zuri Craig’s death, which has caused some people to surmise that he did not die of natural causes.
