Even when a close friend or family member beats cancer, witnessing the battle is a painful experience.
Cancer, of course, has a terrible toll on those who must endure it, but less frequently discussed is the effect it has on the patient’s loved ones.
Fortunately, most people have the advantage of having a supportive network of people to guide them through their toughest times as they deal with this awful illness. It’s important to rely on one another, and the strength and support of a loved one can truly help.
52-year-old actress Shannen Doherty revealed in June of this year that her stage 4 cancer had metastasized to her.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed star received her initial breast cancer diagnosis in 2015, but after receiving treatment, she entered remission two years later.
Tragically, Doherty revealed on Good Morning America in 2020 that she had stage 4 cancer, not just that it had returned.
I’ll find out that I’m stage four in a few days or a week, she predicted. I’m here because my cancer has returned, so there’s that.
Doherty said that she had withheld the information from the public for a year at the time, saying, “I don’t think I’ve processed it. In a lot of respects, it’s a difficult pill to swallow.
We can only imagine how tough that year must have been, but it is known that the actress primarily kept her terrible diagnosis to herself as she worked on a BH90210 revival.
Brian Austin Green, a co-star on Beverly Hills, 90210, was one of the few acquaintances in whom she confided.
The only person among the group that knew that she readily confided in and said, “Here, this is what I’m dealing with,” was Brian. “I had moments of great anxiety where I thought, ‘I can’t really do this,'” she said.
So, before every shooting, he would contact me and assure me that he would be there for me no matter what. He would say, “We got this, kiddo,” as he would gaze at me.Brian therefore gave me a lot of support.
Green has already provided an update on the health of his close friend in an interview with the Herald Sun.
He said, “We talk all the time.” She is a very tough individual. She is one of the few people who could actually battle cancer.
Obviously, it’s a difficult position, but I adore her more than anything.
And she is taking full advantage of the situation.
Doherty has, in fact, won a lot of admiration for the openness with which she has shared her battle with cancer. The actress has been very transparent with her followers, attempting to keep them informed at every turn.
Doherty shared video of her first radiotherapy session in June of this year, explaining: “On January 5th, my CT scan revealed Mets in my brain. The process of getting fitted for the mask you wear during radiation to your brain was demonstrated in yesterday’s film.
“The radiation treatment started. My worry is evident. Because of my severe claustrophobia and the amount of activity in my life.
“I am lucky to get excellent medical care from Dr. Amin Mirahdi and the superb Cedar Sinai staff. But this is what cancer may look like—that worry, that turbulence, that timing.
Offer Shannen Doherty your prayers! And also to Celine Dion, the legendary singer, after a recent health report confirmed what we had already suspected.
