After their video went viral and received inappropriate remarks online, a mother and son lashed out at trolls. Amber Wright, a proud mother, watched her high school senior son, Brixton, play football.
She had been watching him play and immediately went up to him, wrapping her legs around his chest in an embrace.
The clip went viral quickly, and it wasn’t hard to guess where viewers’ thoughts had gone. But now the two have responded to the filthy speculations made about their connection, with Amber admitting she was “proud” of her kid and wanted to embrace him after seeing him play.
Amber remarked on TODAY, “I was very proud. A motherly embrace came over me, and I felt nothing but joy.
To the point where people are saying things like, “You’re sexually abusing him!” was not what I was expecting at all. I see what you’re doing here: you’re shaping him up. I’m going to report you to child services.
Amber went on to say that the game was particularly meaningful since it was the first time his father, who had gone away on April 4, had ever worn a football shirt on the field.
Amber said to the media that, “as his mom, I am his safe space” whenever her son is feeling vulnerable.
In the caption of a now-deleted Instagram post, Brixton told the bullies to “How abt you leave my mom alone.” She has never sexually harassed me or any of my friends.
The video of my mother and me embracing was a HUG because she is my mother and my idol. Get out of my way and give a big embrace to your kids. You guys are lost without Jesus, darn it.
“I come from a very affectionate family,” Amber told TODAY. When I see my dad, I always give him a big embrace. What you witnessed on the field is a true representation of our personalities. After picking me up and squeezing me, Brix would drop me back to the floor.
Amber had originally captioned the image, “This boy will forever and always have my entire heart,” which has now been deleted. I’m very appreciative that Gina managed to catch the last seconds of this.
After my little boy’s game, I stepped over to give him a hug, and instead of hugging me, he lifted me up and held me. I don’t know whether it was 20 seconds, 30 seconds, or a minute.
