Weddings are always special because it’s the moment you and your partner decide to share each other’s lives with love surrounded by your close family and friends. So the idea of having your partner’s ex present can send even the most confident bride into a breakdown. But not for bride Katie Musser.

Katie Musser was more than excited that she would tie the knot with the love of her life, Jeremy Wade.

But for her, there was one other person at the wedding who was just as important — Jeremy’s ex, Casey Bender who also happens to be the mother of his first son, Landon.

So on the day of the wedding, instead of ignoring Landon’s mother and anxious father, Katie invited them both to the wedding. She even wrote special vows to show them how much she appreciated their love and support.

Though co-parenting with strangers is obviously a challenge, everyone wanted Landon’s best interests. Therefore, they decided to cooperate.

Katie was about to become a permanent part of the family, and she wanted to do it in a dignified way.

After saying her vows to Jeremy, Katie turned to Casey and Tyler and offered words of love to the two people she would co-parent with her for the rest of her life.

It takes a lot of courage and a lot of humility to do what Katie did – to draw attention from her to her husband’s ex-wife on her wedding day. But Katie did it without hesitation.

It was the most important moment of her life and she knew how important it was to include Casey and Tyler.

After reading her vows to them, Katie turned to Landon.

She bent down to be at his height and promised to take care of him and told him how much she loved him.

She promised that she would be his best friend forever, and that she would always be there for him.

By the time Katie finished, all the wedding guests were in tears. What an emotional moment!

“First of all I want to thank you for accepting me as your friend and for allowing me to be a part of Landon’s life. I promise to be a wonderful mother to your son, I will guide, teach and love him every day. I promise to work, respect, listen and communicate together as co-parents. I Love you no matter what happens, we are one family forever”.

It is wonderful to see a family committed to raising their child in the best possible way, even when things are a little complicated! In a world where families can take many forms, it is extremely important to include everyone.

Children of course always come first, and Katie understands this better than anyone.
