Plus-size influencer Jaelynn Chaney is advocating for more inclusive hotel accommodations, such as wider corridors and spacious elevators, to make travel more welcoming for all. However, her requests have generated mixed opinions online.
A plus-size influencer who once demanded airlines give bigger customers free seats is now urging hotels to adjust a number of things to better accommodate overweight guests, including making the corridors wider.
Jaelynn Chaney outlined numerous ways hotels may develop "size-inclusive" amenities in a video she published to her TikTok account last month.
She said she is “on a mission to revolutionize the travel industry and make it a more accessible, accepting, accommodating place for all,” adding: “The needs of plus-sized travelers matter just as much as anybody else.”
“We deserve an environment that respects our needs and body diversity,” Chaney claimed.
Among her many demands were to “make elevators and hallways [more] spacious, to allow for easy movement of larger individuals, and those utilizing mobility devices.”
In order to make it easier for persons with bigger bodies to wash themselves, Chaney also advised that hotels raise their toilet seats and retrofit each room with a handheld shower head.
“Hotels should provide size-inclusive bathrooms,” she said in the video. “These should go up to size 6X and beyond.”
In order to allow for larger-framed persons to relax in peace, Chaney also recommended that hotels install handrails in their swimming pools and purchase stronger, wider chairs for the lounges and poolside.
And, she said, hotels need to “train staff to be respectful, understanding and accommodating to travelers of all sizes.”
“Size-inclusive hotel amenities are more than just accommodations — they’re a statement of respect for diverse needs and body types,” she continued.
“From spacious chairs to thoughtful bathroom facilities, every detail matters,” she wrote. “Let’s make travel truly accessible and welcoming for travelers of all sizes and abilities.”
However, there were conflicting opinions posted online regarding Chaney's requests.
“I agree this is ideal, but some of these are out of the hotel’s control — lift size for example,” one person wrote, using the British term for an elevator.
Another TikTok user, though, commented: “I’m backing you 100%.”
Others had harsher opinions of Chaney's requests, with one woman posing the following question: “How are you gonna ask for things to change, but refuse to change yourself?”
Another suggested, “It [would] be cheaper to diet.”
She replied, "I am fat and I will let no airline or hotel pay for my eating habits," to which a male user responded that Chaney was being "entitled" to her demands.
“Imagine feeling so entitled to demand that an entire industry accommodate your inability to put down the fork,” he wrote, calling it “wild.”
With more than 134,000 followers on TikTok, Chaney describes herself as a "Plus Size Travel, Fashion & Lifestyle" maker.
