One of the most misunderstood canine breeds in the world is probably the pit bull. They have not benefited greatly from their popularity. People often connect pit bulls with aggression and violence, but as with all dog breeds, it all depends upon the owner and how they raised dog.
Like children, dogs depend on solid training. Pit bulls may be bigger than many dogs and may have stronger bites, but they can also be trained to behave nicely and kindly. Although they may appear frightening, I believe it is safe to state that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. There are many pit bulls who enjoy spending time with dogs.
Hurley, a fearless and smart pit bull, is one of these dogs. He went out of his way to protect a young boy from a snake.
Sister of Stacie Rae English Hurley’s owner. She posted about the incident on Facebook since she was so affected by what was going on that day. This is what she wrote:
“Around ten o’clock in the evening, my brother was walking Hurley, his pit bull lab mix, in our nearby area. He takes him for a walk at this hour so he can allow him off the leash and letting him do what he enjoys doing, which is exploring all the different scents. Before my brother could react, Hurley ran off in the direction of the child’s screaming once they heard it.”
“My brother followed closely behind Hurley as he grabbed a copper-headed snake away from the young boy and threw it around, later learning that it had been killed. My brother wasn’t able to find out anything about the young child since he raced to his mother’s car and sped away. My brother then called animal control, and the Highland Village Cops arrived to investigate the scene (we assume that he was bitten because they left so quickly). “
Stacie Rae continues:
“They requested to take a look at Hurley to determine whether he had been bitten. He was bleeding, with a swollen neck, and was foaming at the mouth, which surprised my brother. They did indeed find out two bite marks on his top lip. Hurley spent the night at Denton Animal Emergency Hospital after Shelby took him there so they could keep an eye on his capacity to coagulate blood during the night.”
“This morning, Hurley and Shelby both arrived at home. Hurley is doing much better this morning, thank God, though he still appears to be uncomfortable due to his swollen face and neck.” according to Stacie Ray.
Wow, talk about being on the brink! Hurley did a great job!
Last but not least, the sister writes:
“Hurley undoubtedly saved the young child from getting bitten, or at least from being bitten repeatedly, once it was revealed that he had come upon a copper head nest. We are currently attempting to identify the young child and ensure his safety. This is the heroic pit bull. For those who criticize his breed, I want to spread the word about his narrative.”
This only serves to demonstrate that not all pit bulls are harmful. Of course, in some circumstances they might even save your life. Share now to recognize Hurley’s outstanding bravery!
