Several famous golden couples have come and gone in Hollywood. Just a few examples include Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio, Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner, and Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart.
Yet the late Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, who are currently 92 years old, must be mentioned when discussing storied celebrity couples.
Paul and Joanne were married from 1958 until Newman’s passing in 2008 at the age of 83. Paul and Joanne were partners for 50 years while they travelled, made movies, and raised a family.
But did you know that when she first met her future husband, Woodward wasn’t very taken aback?
Immediately following the 1957 filming of The Long, Hot Summer, Newman and Jackie got married. Three kids were born to the couple.
Paul and Joanne were married on January 29, 1858, a few time after their split from Jackie.
Paul and Joanne got hitched in Las Vegas, and then honeymooned in Europe.
Press coverage of the newlywed Hollywood celebs was insatiable. The two were trailed by journalists while they were on their honeymoon, which helped them become a well-liked celebrity couple.
It was the start of a joyous, endearing, and lovely love tale.
Paul and Joanne settled into their 18th-century Connecticut farmhouse after their six-week honeymoon.
Joanna remarked to the Daily News in 2001 that choosing to relocate to the mansion rather than Los Angeles was important for their marriage.
“We were never associated with Hollywood. Simply said, we preferred it here. We’ve always enjoyed one other’s company, so that certainly also helps,” Joanne remarked.
1958 would also go down in history as the year Woodward achieved Hollywood immortality. She starred in The Three Faces of Eve, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, and in the following year, 1969, she received another nod for her performance in Rachel, Rachel. The latter was directed by Paul Newman.

Yet the love story came to an end in 2008, after 50 years of marriage.
Paul Newman, 83, passed away in 2008 after a battle with cancer. The cinema industry honoured and praised the iconic Butch Cassidy actor.
Joanne and other charity received the Newman inheritance after the passing of her devoted husband.
Given that having a long and happy marriage is rather uncommon in the entertainment industry, Joanne and Paul were one of the actual golden couples of Hollywood.
The pair maintained their love for one another through humour and were well-known for their involvement in politics and charities while juggling career and family obligations.
