A school principal in China believes that shuffle dancing with his students is a great way to keep them active through the school week.
Zhang Pengfei, the principal of Xi Guan Primary School in the Shanxi province of China, has taken an innovative approach to keeping his students active during their school day. He became concerned after seeing his students spend many hours on their phones, computers, and tablets.
Zhang taught himself to shuffle dance and believed his using the dance could help his students “exercise more”, so he started teaching them during their break times. Watch Zhang and his students keeping fit in the video below. Scroll down for an interview with the dancing principal in the second video.
Shuffle Dancing
The dance, also known as “The Melbourne Shuffle”, developed in the 1980s. It’s a full-body workout and will most likely allow the students of Xi Guan Primary School to create some very popular TikTok videos. When videos of Zhang Pengfei shuffling with his students appeared on the internet for the first time in 2019, his approach to solving the problem of children not getting enough exercise and movement during their school week has been admired by many – it’s also pretty entertaining to watch too!
