Whitney and Brett Quinton’s journey to parenthood was filled with both joy and immense sorrow. They experienced the elation of welcoming their first son, but also the heartache of a miscarriage.

Desiring a sibling for their son, Whitney, who battled health issues like endometriosis, found hope when she became pregnant again.

The couple’s excitement grew when they learned they were expecting a girl. However, during a routine ultrasound, their world turned upside down. The doctors found severe abnormalities in their unborn daughter, including a misplaced heart, missing kidney, and growth issues in her bones, hands, and feet.

Faced with the devastating prognosis of their daughter’s low quality of life and potential suffering, Whitney and Brett were overwhelmed with grief and confusion.

In their time of despair, they turned to their faith, seeking guidance for the difficult decision ahead. After much prayer and heart-wrenching deliberation, they decided not to prolong their daughter’s suffering. Whitney bravely underwent labor, knowing it would end in loss rather than life. Their daughter, Ruby-Jo, was born sleeping, weighing only one pound.

The experience was traumatic and filled with guilt and sorrow for Whitney. Yet, in that moment of profound loss, Brett’s comforting words brought a glimmer of solace, reminding Whitney that Ruby-Jo was now at peace. He expressed pride in Whitney’s strength and reassured her of their daughter’s pain-free existence in heaven.

“Whits, it’s okay. You did it,” he told her. “She’s finally home and she’s perfect. She’s with our family in Heaven, and she’s not in pain anymore. I am so proud of you.“

Whitney reflects on this life-altering experience with mixed emotions. Despite the unbearable loss, she finds comfort in the belief that Ruby-Jo is part of their family and awaits them in heaven.

This tragedy has deepened their faith, compassion, and ability to support others in similar situations. Ruby-Jo’s brief life and the difficult decision they made in her best interest continue to shape and strengthen Whitney and Brett, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Rest in peace, Ruby-Jo.
