In April 2022, “Partridge Family” actor Danny Bonaduce revealed that he came down with a mysterious illness. This condition temporarily took away his ability to walk or talk. He did not think anything worse at first, but he was alerted that something was wrong, by his wife, Amy.
In an interview with Good Morning America, he said, “I couldn’t walk at all. I couldn’t balance. I couldn’t do anything like that.” He continued, “She looked really nervous.
And she said, ‘You’re not saying words, you’re not speaking English,’ which of course is preposterous to me. We called an ambulance and [it] took me to the hospital where I remained for the first five days and remember very little of it.”
Danny went on to say that he has no idea what the illness is or what caused it in the first place. He shared, “I’m still working towards receiving a diagnosis. What I do know is, I need some time to focus on my health.”
It took five days of tests to rule out a stroke, but the former child star-turned-radio DJ still didn’t know what was wrong with him. “I’d seen my dad have a stroke, and it was the same thing. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t keep my balance. I slurred really badly. I couldn’t remember anything. He added, “I was hoping for a diagnosis, but did not get one.”
Bonaduce tweeted back in April that he would be taking a break from his career. At the time, he wrote: “Some news to share. I’m taking a temporary medical leave from my radio show. I’ll share more when I know more.
I’m still working towards receiving a diagnosis. What I know is, I need time to focus on my health. I love my job and talking to you guys & I’ll be back on the air soon. ”
On Instagram, he also shared a photo of himself with a cane with the caption: “Charlie Chaplin, Willy Wonka, Danny Bonaduce. I’ve joined the club of cool guys with canes.”
He also said that he understands why people think that he brought this on himself. He said, “I’ve lived kind of a hard and fast life. And that’s how I think the people think of me: ‘Danny Bonaduce, nothing good can ever come of him.’”
But based on his experience, there was no way for him to know that this was going to happen. He said, “There was nothing that said this was gonna happen.”
Bonaduce became famous in the early ’70s when he played ‘Danny Partridge’ on the sitcom “The Partridge Family,” which also starred Shirley Jones, David Cassidy, and Susan Dey.
He has been sober even though he previously struggled with substance abuse He has been co-hosting “The Danny Bonaduce & Sarah Morning Show” on Seattle radio station KZOK since 2011.
Talking to “GMA” the actor said that he was able to return to work after two months away. But he urges his fans to “take time to consider your health and what you’re doing.” The actor advised others to stay on top of their health. He said, “Take time to consider your health and what you’re doing. Pay attention.”
As they say, we have to live life to the fullest but we also need to take a break not only for our body, but also for our mind and spirit.
