One couple, excitedly anticipating their upcoming wedding, was in a heated debate about an inheritance the woman had received from her grandmother. She turned to the internet to ask if she had overreacted to her fiancé's behavior.

The narrative begins with a young woman, recently engaged, who experiences the loss of her beloved grandmother. This loss was not just emotional but also had financial implications.

Her grandmother, described as having led a life marked by hard work, success, and prudent financial decisions, left behind a generous inheritance. This inheritance, intended to benefit her granddaughter among other family members, was substantial even when divided between the woman and her brother and cousins, ensuring a significant sum for each.

However, the story turned when the fiancé's reaction to the news was unveiled. Rather than focusing on the emotional significance of the bequest or its potential to secure a future for the couple, his response is one of immediate self-interest.

When the woman told her fiancé about the inheritance, he seemed extremely excited, more than she thought he would be. Later, she discovered why her future husband positively reacted to the money the way he did.

Overheard by his fiancée, he jubilantly told his friends during an online game session that he plans to use the inheritance to pay off his debts and finance a vacation with the boys, understandably stirring a mix of shock, hurt, and betrayal in her.

The confrontation that ensues is charged with emotion and conflict, highlighting not only the fiancé's entitlement but also a fundamental disconnect in their views on finances, respect, and partnership.

The man said that as they were bound to wed, they should consider their finances interchangeable and even labeled the woman as a "financial BURDEN." The woman didn't understand because she had a good job and didn't want kids, so she couldn't understand how her future husband considered her a burden.

The couple then got into a shouting match, in which the man told the young woman that he thought she was being selfish. He also told her it was not right for her to embarrass him in front of his friends and dash their hopes of a vacation.

The young woman then decided she didn't want to be around her fiancé anymore. She silently left the house to spend the night at a friend's house, where she wrote the Reddit post asking if she had overreacted to what happened between her and her fiancé.

The woman soon began receiving advice and commiserations from people who had read her post. Some thought that the woman should consider calling off her wedding. Others told her she had done the right thing by standing up for herself.

One commenter wrote"Yep. Major red flag - he has kept hidden that he has old fashioned ideas of your role in the marriage. You will be 'a burden' yet your money is his money, but no doubt not vice versa. A prenup to protect you, or walk away. And he is circling your grandpa like a vulture!" Another person agreed with this writing"He thinks her inheritance is her dowry, like the olden days."

One commenter said that the man was planning on spending her inheritance before she had even received it. The person further commented"If I were me I'd seriously end the relationship now. He has proven how he feels about you. You will be his financial burden? How? When YOU have inheritance?"

What would you do if you were in this young woman's situation? Do you think she was wrong for telling her fiancé he was not permitted to use any of her inheritance and yelling at him in front of his friends during his online game?
