When we are in love, all the bad things seem to fade away, and we don’t see any red flags. That was the case for the protagonist of this story, who learned that time always brings the truth to light, even if we don’t want to see it.

Coping with a break-up
At Bright Side, we understand that a breakup can be a very tough ordeal, whatever the reason. That’s why we did a little research to see how we can cope with it:
- Stick to your support network. Sharing your feelings with family or friends can help you get through this period. You can also try joining a support group of people who have been through this situation. Isolating yourself from the world will only make you more stressed.
- Take care of yourself emotionally and physically. Try to eat healthy, exercise, and relax. It may be hard at first, but it is best to do this and try to keep your routine as normal as possible, as neglecting good habits can lead to more problems.
- Explore your interests. Try to reconnect with the things you liked to do besides being with your partner—have you always wanted to play a sport or play an instrument? This is a good time to give it a try and make new friends along the way.
- Take one day at a time. It can be overwhelming to think that you’re going to feel sad or angry for a long time, so try not to obsess about how you’re going to feel next week or worry about how you’ll react to future situations, but allow yourself to overcome each obstacle as it happens, one day at a time.
- Forgive yourself. When going through a divorce, you may feel guilty of different reasons. However, whether you were wrong about something or not, it’s good to accept that you can’t change the past, that people and circumstances change, and that what you can avoid is making the same mistakes. Think about the future, it is difficult, but it will help you realize that guilt will not help you move forward.
