No matter a person’s job title, everyone deserves to be treated with respect. This is a fact that some people, unfortunately, still don’t understand. Joe Cousins mom, Julie, was a cleaner for 35 years. In that time, she connected with so many wonderful individuals, as she did work she was not only great at but enjoyed. Then, in 2021, an encounter with a bad manager prompted her to turn in her resignation letter.

During her last five years of work, Julie worked at HSBC Bank in the UK. Here, it seems, there was one manager in particular who caused problems. She even looked down at Julie for her job. Ironically, this manager’s name is also Julie. Finally, a particularly rude encounter led Joe’s mom to the realization that it was time to retire — but not without some parting words for the other Julie.

To best express how she felt, Julie wrote a letter. In it, she could have chosen to be rude right back to her manager. Instead, she found a kind yet firm way to let her know that her actions are unacceptable.

Woman Shares Wise Words in Resignation Letter After Getting Bullied by Manager

“I’ve left the job, Julie, after the way you dressed me down in the office,” Joe’s mom, Julie, writes. “It was nothing more than aggressive and cruel but that’s a reflection on your character not mine.”

A letter written by Julie for her manager, Julie, at HSBC Bank.

Hi ladies tomorrow will be my last clean for HSBC.

I have made up of a bucket of lss cleaning materials for the next cleaner who ever that may be!!

I've left the job, Julie, after the way you dressed me down in the office. It was nothing more than aggressive and cruel but that's a reflection on your character not mine.

So going forward, please, all of you remember in a world when you can be anything, be kind because you are all no better than the cleaner.

Regards, Julie

Joe was so proud of his mom, he had to share her well-written letter online. In doing so, Julie has garnered support from all around the world. Part of the reason this letter has caught so much attention is because of Julie’s parting words of wisdom, not only for her manager, but for the rest of her colleagues.

“So going forward, please, all of you remember,” Julie writes, “in a world when you can be anything, be kind because you are all no better than the cleaner.”

Although it’s upsetting that it was best for Julie to leave her work at that time, the Cousins’ family can confidently report that she’s more than happy enjoying her new retirement life.

“And this is why I love my mum,” Joe shares. “She’s been cleaning banks for 35 years and today walked out with this lovely note left for that awful manager. Happy retirement Mum — always have the last laugh eh!”
