A teenager from New York caused a stir on TikTok by revealing a surprising story about his supposed best friend, who turned out to be a hired actor. Lawson Spolansky, who describes himself as an ’embarrassing best friend’ in his TikTok bio, shocked users earlier this month when he shared the unexpected twist in his friendship tale.
In a video that has now garnered over one million views, Spolansky recounted a story that began back in 2012 when he was just five years old and facing some social and behavioral challenges at school. One day in July, while he was playing at the playground, he took a tumble off the monkey bars and got hurt. A little blonde boy approached him and began teasing him.
Fortunately, the boy’s mother intervened, and soon, the two young boys were hanging out together at the park. When school resumed in September, Spolansky was surprised to find the same blonde boy, whom he later identified as Dexter, sitting next to him in class. Over the years, their friendship blossomed into a strong bond, and Spolansky found himself thriving academically and socially with Dexter by his side.
Skipping ahead to 2018, Dexter supposedly approached Spolansky with an exciting proposition: a trip to Paris, Spain, and Universal California, using some birthday money he had saved up. He urged Spolansky to start planning what to pack for the adventure. However, just one day later, Dexter began coming up with strange excuses as to why the trip couldn’t happen.
Spolansky was taken aback when he later stumbled upon an Instagram photo showing Dexter, his mom, and even Spolansky’s own aunt together in Hollywood.
Confused, Spolansky confronted Dexter and his aunt about the situation, but they dismissed it as a misunderstanding. Now, let’s fast forward to 2021. Spolansky’s boyfriend at the time was working as a pool boy for Dexter’s mom – or so they thought. However, while on the job, he discovered that the woman wasn’t Dexter’s mom at all, but his agent.
In his TikTok video, Spolansky stunned viewers with the revelation that his aunt was actually best friends with Dexter’s real mom – a woman he had never met. Furthermore, he discovered that his aunt had paid Dexter’s mom to orchestrate the friendship between Dexter and Spolansky.
Adding to the intrigue, Spolansky mentioned that his therapist was allegedly the sister of Dexter’s agent.
“So now I’m left broken, [a] severe amount of trust issues, and I feel like I never really went anywhere,” he said. “I thought I had a real friend, but then you find out this friend is actually paid.”
Spolansky expressed feeling like he had never truly experienced genuine friendship, saying, “I don’t know what to do now, but I thought it would be interesting to share.”
Viewers have been absolutely astounded by Spolansky’s story, with one person commenting, “What in the Truman show is this dude omg that is insane.”
“5? You were a child. Normal child behavior, shame on the adults,” a second added.
On the other hand, some viewers remained skeptical of Spolansky’s story and tried to find inconsistencies in his narrative.
“He was 5… there’s no way he has such vivid memories and remembers the sequence of events the day at the park. This is completely made up,” someone said.
Reportedly, Spolansky’s aunt has denied the allegations made by Spolansky.
Spolansky responded to the critics by saying, “It hurts me that people truly believe I would want to makeup something so horrific. I am trying to be vulnerable here and share some real feelings.”
