My Husband Saw Our Newborn & Threw My Things Out on the Street – Then He Got a DNA Test

Becoming a new mother was supposed to be a time of celebration but turned into a nightmare when the woman's husband accused her of cheating when he saw their newborn baby's skin color. She begged him to believe she was innocent, but the man didn't listen and instead did a DNA test on the baby.

A 24-year-old woman with the Reddit username SweetBabyZ2020 opened up about her ordeal asking others if she did the right thing after her husband, Jim, accused her of cheating upon learning that their newborn daughter had a dark skin tone.

In reaction to the child's birth, Jim, 26, took to a social media platform to announce his wife cheated on him. He accused her publicly without proof, while she kept telling him he was wrong. Little did he know that he would soon regret creating a fuss without evidence.

The wife had her mother by her side while her friends and family said mean things to her on the phone. "Jim refused to pick me up from the hospital, threw my stuff out on the lawn, and changed the locks, so I had to stay with my parents," she recalled.

What Happened after the Man Refused to Talk to His Wife?

Besides refusing to speak to his wife, Jim emptied the nursery by returning some of the baby's belongings and giving others away. The woman felt hurt upon learning that her husband didn't think twice before ruining the room they had set up with so much love.

A few weeks after the baby's birth, Jim found a solution. He agreed to take a paternity test to see if he was the baby's father, unaware that the results would shock him. The woman recounted:

"No one could believe the results, and it was done again."

The results showed a 100% DNA match between Jim and the baby. At that point, the man felt guilty about falsely accusing his wife in front of his friends and family. He immediately apologized, but it was too late.

What explained the baby girl's dark skin tone was the result of a DNA ancestry test that a cousin of Jim's took. It showed that the family had 30% African ancestry, and it made even more sense because Jim's great-grandmother confessed to having an affair before her son's birth.

Once the truth was established, everyone who previously slammed the woman began apologizing to her. However, their apologies couldn't make her forget everything that happened after she gave birth. She said:

"I can't un-hear or unsee all the horrible things that were said and done. Not just to me but to my child as well."

The woman said her husband had been "begging for forgiveness," but she couldn't move on. She asked him for some time to process everything but couldn't convince herself to give Jim another chance. Seeing him at his worst made her fear he might do the same again.

Did the Woman Forgive Her Husband and How Did Redditors React to the Story?

Trying to regain his wife's trust, Jim repaired the nursery, hoping she would return home with the baby. Meanwhile, her sister suggested they go for couples therapy to fix their relationship.

The woman no longer wanted to live with her husband and when she posted her story on Reddit, most people said she was not at fault for not wanting to forgive him. One Reddit user said:

"Leave him and never look back. Go to court and let them decide custody. It's not going to go well for him."

Other users also advised the woman to leave her husband. Soon after sharing her story on Reddit, the woman posted an update, revealing that she was now separated from Jim and was the primary custodian of her baby. However, she did allow him to see her when she visited his house.

Meanwhile, she attended couples counseling sessions with Jim, where she learned something shocking. Jim confessed that he had cheated on her while they were dating. The woman revealed:

"It was with an ex-girlfriend who had cheated on him, and he hooked up with her as an ego boost."

The woman felt heartbroken upon learning the truth about her husband. His cheating confession was the last straw that broke the camel's back because after hearing it, the woman said she wouldn't return to her husband nor accept his apology. Instead, she would file for divorce once her daughter turned one.

Another reader noted how Jim's initial reaction to his child probably caused his wife "permanent psychological trauma" and wasn't something easy to get over. The person felt if the husband's great-grandmother had admitted to her affair long before, she could've saved the Redditor from that experience.

They also suggested that the original poster (OP) get therapy for herself. Someone else felt the wife was right for not tolerating her husband's behavior in making accusations without having proof but urged the Redditor to focus on the positives in her life like her supportive family and her baby.

A Reddit user thought the OP was right not to forgive her husband, while someone else urged her not to take him back no matter what. The reader thought Jim showed "unstable and angry" behavior and encouraged her to get a restraining order.

The person believed the husband wasn't supposed to come near his wife and child because of how unpredictable and angry he'd become. Another reader thought Jim could've been forgiven for doubting the child was his seeing as he and his wife were both white, adding:

"You know what is potentially unforgivable? Everything he did after that."

They felt Jim's behavior was extreme but that he deserved to be allowed to bond with his child irrespective of whether his wife forgave him or stayed with him or not. The person believed that wouldn't mean the OP had forgiven or forgotten her husband's behavior, but to ensure father and child could bond.

Someone else reshared the OP's comment about the racist remarks her husband initially made when he thought his child wasn't his. OP had also mentioned how she didn't want her child around such a person because she worried about what he and his family would say or do the next time they were angry.

The Redditor urged the poster to believe it when people showed them their "true colors." The person thought if Jim was a good person and loved his wife, he would've asked for a paternity test instead of destroying her things.

They felt the husband and his family had made it clear how they would react to such situations and encouraged the OP not to forgive Jim. The reader concluded their post by wishing OP good luck.
