A mother of three from Oklahoma was killed when a plane wing hit her while she was riding a lawnmower on an airport strip.
There was a small airport 170 miles northeast of Dallas called Broken Bow Airport on Friday afternoon. Samantha Hayes, who is 27 years old, was riding the mower on the grass there.
KFOR said that at the same time, 70-year-old pilot James Baxter was getting ready to land his 1972 Bananza A36 on the runway.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Mr. Baxter saw Hayes riding the mower and quickly tried to steer the vehicle away from her but failed.
Hayes was hit in the head by the plane’s wing.
There was no life for the 27-year-old person at the scene.
She was riding a lawnmower at the rural airport at the time of the tragedy, but it’s not clear if she worked there or why.
Friends remember her as a mother who worked hard and loved her children.
On Facebook, someone said, “Samantha Hayes was a wonderful great mom to her three babies.”
“She raised her kids by herself and worked hard to make sure they had a safe with love home!” These babies knew they were loved all day, every day!”
“We don’t know when these things will happen, but they do.” So she said.
Mr. Baxter has not been charged yet, but the incident is still being looked into.
The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety has been contacted by The Independent for more information.
