Reports say that a newlywed husband died in a car accident on Monday while on his way to his honeymoon with his bride. This happened just one day after the couple got married.
Police in Tennessee told WREG Memphis that Daniel Palacios III, 27, and his wife Christy Carrillo, 23, were driving on I-40 when their Toyota 4Runner went off the road and hit a dirt bank.
This caused the couple’s pickup truck to flip several times before it crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit by a semi-truck.
The fire chief of Fayette County told the outlet that Palacios died in the crash. Even though Carillo was hurt, he lived.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says Palacios, who was working as a truck driver for someone else, wasn’t wearing his seatbelt when the fatal accident happened.
There was an accident on I-40 in Fayette County in the afternoon. It was about 40 miles outside of Memphis.
His father, Daniel Palacios Jr., told the Daily Mail that Palacios was killed the day after their wedding.
His father told the news source, “I lost a son but gained a daughter.”
They said yes to marriage in September 2023.
He said that his daughter-in-law was “bruised and emotionally upset” from the crash and the death of her husband, but she was released from the hospital later that day.
He told the news source, “She will be fine.”
Someone on the street sent WREG video of what happened after the terrible accident.
Dennis Vann told the news source, “When I got closer to the accident, it looked like the back tire might have blown out. It hit the median and flipped about twenty times.”
Vann said the damage from the accident was the worst he had ever seen. He travels on I-40 all the time.
In a touching Facebook post, Palacios Jr. announced that his son’s funeral would be held on March 16. He also thanked everyone for their “expressions of love and most of all the prayers” as the family deals with the tragedy.
The death of the newlywed husband is the latest terrible event to happen on Tennessee’s I-40.
A plane with three kids and two adults on board crashed on the highway as it got close to Nashville’s John C. Tune Airport, which is about 200 miles away, hours after Palacios was killed.
A terrifying video showed the single-engine plane crashing next to the highway and catching fire just seconds after the pilot told the plane, “I won’t make it.”
