Joan Morecambe, Eric’s dead wife, died on her 97th birthday after a short illness.
His wife, Joan Bartlett, also known as Joan Bartholomew, died almost 40 years before the late Morecambe and Wise star.
In 1952, they got married in Margate and had a party at the Bulls Head pub.
Gail is 71 years old, Gary is 67 years old, and Stephen is 54 years old. They adopted Stephen.
Joan is thought to have died “peacefully” at her home in Hertfordshire.
She died peacefully at the age of 97 after a short illness. Her children said in a statement, “It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we must share the news that our mother, Joan, has passed away.”
“Our family kindly requests some privacy during this time while we grieve our sad loss.”
She was born on March 26, 1927, and died on Tuesday, her 97th birthday.
Joan got an OBE in 2015 for her charitable work as part of the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.
The Lady Taverners are a part of the Lord’s Taverners youth cricket and disability sports charity. From 1987 to 1992, she started and led the charity.
Eric died in Cheltenham in May 1984. He was 58 years old. He was one half of the comedy duo Morecambe and Wise with Ernie.
Joan recently talked about how her husband was afraid that people would forget about his comedy after he died. She was called a “devoted wife.”
“I do hope we won’t be forgotten,” he used to tell me,” she said. “I really hope that people will remember us,” and of course, people did remember them.
“He’d have been over the moon about that, he really would.”
Eric had his first major heart attack behind the wheel of his car in 1968, the same year that The Morecambe And Wise Show debuted. He was 42 years old and smoked a lot.
He promised himself that he would stop smoking before his two-week stay in the hospital.
Eric kept working even though he had health problems. But in 1979, he had a second heart attack and had to have a heart bypass surgery.
He had his third and final heart attack just seconds after leaving the stage, five years later.
Eric had been performing in a charity show that his friend Stan Stennett was in charge of.
He was “on top form” just minutes before he died, according to his wife Joan.
After a few hours, he died at Cheltenham General Hospital.
In 2016, thieves broke into their house while Joan was introducing a new statue honoring the comedian.
There were thieves who broke in and took watches and jewelry worth a lot of money.
A new sculpture of Morecambe and Wise was the reason Joan was in Blackpool with her son Gary and daughter Gail.
At the same time, Ernie was married to dancer Doreen Blythe, but they did not have any children.
A book from 2021 said that Ernie and Eric’s wives supposedly didn’t get along.
In the 1970s, ventriloquist John Bouchier went on a lot of tours with Eric and Ernie. He said, “The boys never went out with friends because their wives didn’t get along.”
Erik’s crime partner Ernie died in March 1999. He was 73 years old.
He died at Nuffield Hospital in Wexham, which is near Slough. He had heart failure and a chest infection.
