Cyclist Andre Drege’s death happened during the Tour of Austria.

 

On the fourth stage of the race, the 25-year-old mountain biker from his home country, Team Coop-Repsol, lost control on a descent.

Ineos Grenadiers rider Filippo Ganna won the race, but the podiums and awards ceremonies had to be canceled because of what happened.

 

After a successful season on the road, Drege was seen as a possible future professional tour musician.

Immediately after the sad news of his death spread through the sport, tributes poured in.

Americans on the EF Education–EasyPost team tweeted, “A loss felt in the entire cycling community.” “Our thoughts are with André Drege’s family, friends, and teammates. Goodbye, André.

According to the Belgian team Intermarche-Wanty, “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our fellow colleague cyclist André Drege. He had a great career ahead of him.”
