Connie Chiume, who played Black Panther, died at the age of 72, reported her family.

The successful South African actress died in a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Nongelo Chiume, Chiume’s son, his mother was taken to the hospital for a “medical procedure” before she died.

This South African actress was in many TV shows, including Rhythm City, Zone 14, and Gomora.

Chiume played Zawavari, a politician from the Wakandan Tribal Council, in the 2018 movie Black Panther.

As the movie’s lead character, she became Wakanda’s Elder Statesman in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Families have asked for privacy right now and said that more information will be sent later.

For the MacG Podcast in 2022, Chiume said she wanted people to remember her in any way they chose.

This famous actress said, “I have affected each person in a unique manner.” Whatever I did to affect you, remember that.

People have been posting tributes and saying how sorry they are about her death on social media.

“Our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of multi-award winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume,” the South African government wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Her outstanding work will always be remembered.”

Born in Welkom, Free State province, Chiume has a Malawian father and a Zulu mother.

Apparently, she trained to be a nurse but became a teacher instead before becoming a famous actress.

Sadly, the star leaves behind two sons and two daughters.
