Kate, who is 42 years old, started treatment for the Princess of Wales in late February and is still going through preventative chemotherapy.
Before her appearance at Trooping the Colour on June 15, the Princess gave a personal update. She said that her treatment was going “good” but that she has “good days and bad days” and that she is “not out of the woods yet” even though she has been working from home.
Even though Kate said in her statement that she hopes to go on a “few public engagements over the summer,” these events should not be seen as the Princess coming back to public life.
The Prince and Princess of Wales spent some of their kids’ school summer breaks at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. The whole family was seen at Bear Grylls’ Go Wild festival.
Kate and Prince William also sent a video message on August 11 to congratulate Team GB on their success at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In the past few months, the Princess has been to two important public events: the King’s birthday parade and the Men’s Final at Wimbledon.
From her chemo, here’s what we know about her progress.
What Kate has to say about her health
Along with the Princess’s statement, which came out on June 14, Kensington Palace released a new picture of her leaning against a tree on the Windsor Park estate.
This is what Kate wrote: “I have been blown away by all the sweet messages of support and encouragement over the last few months.” The change has been huge for William and me, and it has helped us both get through some tough times.
“Things are going well, but as anyone who has been through chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days.” On those bad days, you’re weak and tired, and your body tells you to rest. Of course, you want to make the most of the good days when you feel stronger.
“I am still getting treatment and will be for a few more months.” When I’m feeling well enough, I love being involved in school life, doing things that make me feel good, and starting to do some work from home.
“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
Going out in public
People who follow the royal family were thrilled when Kate joined them at Trooping the Colour in June.
Kate went to the ceremony at Horse Guards Parade in a carriage with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. She wore a white and navy Jenny Packham dress.
The Princess, the Prince of Wales, the King and Queen, and other important royals who work for the government then went to the balcony with the Princess and her three children to watch the flypast.

The next month, Kate got a standing ovation from the crowd on Centre Court when she went to the Men’s Wimbledon final with her sister Pippa Matthews and daughter Charlotte.
The royal looked beautiful in a purple Safiyaa London dress as she watched Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz play. After the match, she gave the trophy to Alcaraz, who won, on the court.
When will Kate join the royal family again?
The Princess hasn’t started doing as many public appearances as she used to, and decisions about future appearances will depend on how she feels.
Kate is being given time to rest and heal before going back to full-time work, so no date has been set for her return to her duties.
The mother of three shared the news in a personal video message on March 22. She said that her condition was thought to be non-cancerous when she had surgery on her abdomen in January. But tests done after the surgery showed that cancer was present.
“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful,” Kate said in part.
The Prince and Princess said they would tell everyone when they “felt it was right for them as a family.”
Kate said in her statement, “This came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to deal with this privately for the sake of our young family.” You can guess that this has taken a while. I had to wait a while to start my treatment after having major surgery.
“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.”
What kind of cancer does Kate have?
Kensington Palace has not said what kind of cancer she has because the royal family wants to keep her personal health and medical records private.
Why did she need surgery?
The reasons Princess Kate had her major abdominal surgery in January have not been made public. At the time, it was thought that the procedure would not cause cancer. However, later tests showed that cancer was present.
At the end of January, Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate had been taken to the private London Clinic for planned surgery on her stomach.
The palace put out a long statement that said, “The surgery went well, and she will likely stay in the hospital for ten to fourteen days before going home to continue her recovery.” Based on what her doctors say now, she probably won’t be able to go back to work until after Easter.
“The Princess of Wales is glad that this statement will get people’s attention.” She wants people to understand that she wants to keep things as normal as possible for her kids and that she doesn’t want anyone to know about her personal medical information.
