Sad News For Tom Selleck

Tom Selleck is not happy when his show ‘Blue Bloods’ has been canceled. In the crime drama, the actor has played Commissioner Frank Reagan since the 2010 premiere. However, after a successful 14-year run, the network announced last year that the show would conclude this fall. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Selleck expressed his “frustration” over CBS’ decision to end the series.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck revealed. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods, but about it still being wildly successful.”

He continued, “In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were number 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re #6 ! I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, “Get off my lawn!” I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, “Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,”

The actor expresses his frustration when the show has been taken for granted over the years.

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out. I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday.”

“It’s just going to take a while,” he added.

He shared how it hit him to film the last scene as Frank Reagan and know that he would not have to get up early anymore to be filming early on Monday morning.

“My last scene was ironically family dinner — that was also the first scene I shot on the show 15 years ago! I’m not going to tell you everything about the last episode…but the family dinner kind of reunites the Reagan family.”

Tom Selleck shared what he will miss most about the show. “The actors. The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play. There’s isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back,” he said. “Most shows don’t end that way — there’s petty jealousy and all sorts of things — and we seemed to overcome that. It’s something for everybody to hang their hats on and be proud of.”

Blue Bloods is a police drama series that follows the Reagan family, a multi-generational family of law enforcement officers in New York City. The show focuses on their professional lives as members of the NYPD, as well as their personal and moral challenges.

At the core of the series is Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), the patriarch of the family, who serves as the New York City Police Commissioner. His children are also involved in law enforcement: Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), a hot-headed NYPD detective; Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), an assistant district attorney who often balances family loyalty with her pursuit of justice; and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), the youngest, who starts as a beat cop but works his way up the ranks. The series also pays tribute to Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), Frank’s father, who is a retired former commissioner.

A unique aspect of the show is its focus on the Reagan family dinners, where they gather each week to discuss current cases, ethical issues, and family matters. The show delves into complex issues like police brutality, politics, and the pressure of being in a high-profile family in law enforcement. It balances action-packed cases with the family’s emotional and ethical debates.
