Snoop Dogg is perhaps among the most popular American rappers and television personalities. He has made his name worldwide and is a household name.
However, many might not know about the musician’s personal life. Beneath his calm exterior, he has seen a lot of pain. But he still finds the joys in life and is quick to celebrate them.
Keep reading to learn more about what the rapper’s family looks like today.
Snoop Dogg was born on October 20, 1971. In 1997, he married Shante Broadus. The couple has three children: Corde, Cordell, and Cori. Snoop has also fathered Julian, his son from another relationship.
His children are all grown up, and Snoop himself, in addition to being a dad, is also a proud grandfather. He lost of a grandchild and still keeps their memory alive. In 2007, Snoop appeared in a reality show titled “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood,” to show his lesser known side as a family man.
When promoting the show, he said in an interview “I got kids, and I always play my music for them. I like to hear what they like. They think I’m old, but I think I’m young.”
For him fatherhood has been a journey, he said, “Ninety percent of rappers grew up without fathers, but you see ninety percent of those rappers becoming fathers to their kids. We don’t ever get commended for that. We become real men when we get to this level we’re at right now.”
He gave a 2015 interview where he gave himself a humble rating as a father of “about a 7-plus” as a father, and as for his style as a grandfather he said he is a “gullible, get-away-with-everything kind of grandpa.”
He is incredibly sweet when talking about his role of being a grandfather, he shared, “It’s just a spark of joy just to look in his eyes and to be able to hold him. I thank my oldest son for making me a grandfather.”
Earlier this year, he said in an interview for “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” saying how his grandchildren call him “Papa Snoop,” a name his eldest grandson called him first.
“[My grandkids are] different ages, ranges, [and] sizes and I love them all the same way. Actually, my oldest [grandson’s] birthday is today so I’m on my way to his birthday party when I leave here.”, Snoop shared.
He recalled that his eldest grandchild actually called him ‘Papa Noop’ due to the fact that he had a hard time pronouncing ‘Snoop’ at first.
In September 2019, the family faced a huge loss when Snoop’s grandson Kai Love passed away when he was just 10 days old.
At the time, Snoop shared a heartbreaking message that read to signal his feelings about the loss, “If you’re facing something you don’t understand: Choose to trust God. Remember all He has done for you. His ways are higher than ours. He is always good.”
Kai parents were Snoop’s son Corde Broadus, and his wife, Soraya Love. Like Grandpa Snoop, they were also shattered at the loss of their child. On what would have been their late son’s first birthday, the mom of the late child shared an emotional message to Instagram. It read,
“Happy heavenly birthday to my 1st son Kai Love who passed away 9-15-2019,” she wrote in her post, it went on to say, “…I know God used this painful time in our families life, knowing I will use that to help those in need of that knowledge of GOD and SELF [sic].”
She opened up about how her loss had propelled her to immerse herself in a life of wellness, spirituality, and community support.
She wrote in her post, “The pain of losing a child you created in YOUR body is very traumatic feeling that never goes away…since that moment God has guided my steps and shown me a deeper soul purpose…to get close to God, improve your heart health through lifestyle choices, relationship standards, family dynamic, generational curse breaking; food choices, self-love, serving those in need of help mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally [sic].”
The de;at:h inspired the parents to start the “Kai Heart Foundation,” an organization which focuses on spreading love and healing through the power of community.
