A court heard that a woman who was upset over her ex-partner’s new relationship murdered her kid by stabbing him several times.

Despite being found unable to stand trial, Keziah Macharia, 43, is accused of killing her four-year-old son Kobi Dooly-Macharia on or around December 20, 2023.

Inner London Crown Court heard testimony on Monday that officers discovered Kobi cold to the touch in his bed, with many knife wounds and evidence of an attempted strangling.

According to Mrs. Justice Thornton, a “fact-finding hearing” should be held to determine if Macharia killed Kobi, but not whether she did so.

In order to reach a murder judgment, she instructed jurors to “consider her state of mind and whether she is at fault.”

After meeting in 2018, Macharia and Ben Dooly began dating, and on September 21, 2019, their son Kobi was born, according to prosecutor Mukul Chawla KC.

He said that while the couple shared a first-floor apartment in Montague Road, Hackney, with Kobi, their relationship soured following his birth.

According to the court, Mr. Dooly moved out and began sleeping on the couch two or three days a week, but this stopped when he met Sasha Sasheva, his present girlfriend.

Macharia was’very angry’ that Kobi was spending any time with her, Mr. Chawla claimed, adding that Ms. Sasheva banned Macharia on social media and on her phone due to messages she received.

The court was shown CCTV footage of Macharia picking up her kid at around 4:30 p.m. on December 20 at Nightingale Primary School in Hackney.

Macharia was spotted with Kobi as they left the building, Kobi wearing a coat and holding a red balloon. The prosecution said that she did not exhibit any signs of discomfort or unusual behavior.

“It appears that the defendant began drinking alcohol at some point that evening; it is impossible to determine when she began drinking or how much she consumed,” he said.

According to the court, Macharia texted Mr. Dooly on WhatsApp at 10:42 p.m., saying, “Hey Ben, good luck with the biteme-cups five days before Xmas!”

“I wish you and Sasha a happy life together.” Knowing that she will have my son Kobi’s last name and that I will no longer be in your life makes me unable to survive.

Happy New Year’s and Merry Christmas. Farewell, x’ The prosecution said that Mr. Dooly had just started Bite Me Cups.

‘This is all your fault’ and ‘you will never have the same surname as my kid’ were the messages Macharia sent to Ms. Sasheva’s phone, the court heard.

According to the prosecution, Macharia sent Mr. Dooly two WhatsApp messages at 10.48 p.m., less than a minute apart, saying, “Kobi is dead” and “you can thank Sasha for that.”

According to jurors, the two called the police, with Mr. Dooly saying he had just received word from his child’s mother that his kid had passed away.

Additionally, the court heard that Macharia texted a WhatsApp group conversation newly made by a lady named Reena Life with the message “Kobi is dead” at 10:49 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene at 10:59 p.m., body-worn video showed cops yelling, ringing the bell, and repeatedly beating on the door without getting a response.

Jurors were informed that when police knocked on the door outside, Macharia and Ms. Life were on a WhatsApp call.

According to Mr. Chawla, Ms. Life heard the buzzer go off during the conversation, and the two ladies discussed the arrival of the police.

According to the prosecution, Ms. Life took notes throughout the discussion in which the defendant acknowledged murdering Kobi.

Jurors heard that Macharia texted Ms. Sasheva at 11 p.m. after the conversation ended, calling her a “you bitch,” and then at 11:01 p.m., she messaged Mr. Dooly, adding, “I hate tig both (sic).”

When the police burst through the door, the prosecutor stated: “We could see the text message that Ms. Macharia sent to Ms. Sasheva as the police entered and exited the building.”

Another note appears as they ascend the stairs, addressed to Mr. Dooly. It is obviously written quickly: “I hate iger both,” which she obviously intended to say “you both.”

Video depicting Macharia seated in front of the couch on the floor of the living room wearing blood-stained clothing was displayed to the jurors.

She knelt when the cops arrived, and a knife was seen behind her as she was being arrested. ‘Who did this?’ police were heard to question. “She raises her hand to her chest, acknowledging.

It was her,” Mr. Chawla added. According to the prosecution, officers recorded her stating that she attempted to overdose and hurt herself.

Kobi was discovered next a double bed in the bedroom, in his crib. At 12:06 a.m. on December 21, 2023, he was declared deceased.

Macharia had ‘a very dulled subdued affect’ and wept sporadically when he was brought to the Stoke Newington Police station, according to Mr. Chawla.

He went on to say, “She repeatedly told officers that all she wanted was her baby back and to see his adorable face.”

According to the prosecution, Macharia’s injuries were limited to bruises that were consistent with her detention and handcuffing.
