Melania Trump’s visa has some online calling Donald Trump a ‘hypocrite’ over his immigration campaign.
Earlier this week, the first lady had her visa status questioned publicly.
Texan Representative Jasmine Crockett questioned if the Trump administration was giving Melania special treatment during their mass deportation.
On June 25, during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Crockett accused the government of ‘snatching’ visas from legal citizens.
She then went on to question Melania’s status. The 55-year-old moved to the US on an EB-1 visa, also known as the Einstein visa, given the name as it is awarded to those who have won an Oscar, Olympic award or Pulitzer or anyone high up in their field.
Crockett’s argument was that Melania, who would become a US citizen in July 2006, never fit any of these criteria before being given her visa.
Crockett argued: “You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement, like being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitzer, being an Olympic medalist, or having other sustained extraordinary abilities and success in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics.
“Melania, the first lady, a model – and when I say model, I’m not talking about Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford or Naomi Campbell-level – applied for and was given an EB1 visa.
“It doesn’t take an Einstein to see that the math ain’t mathin’ here.”
Some online are also beginning to question Melania’s visa, with one person writing on Reddit: “The profound hypocrisy of Donald Trump’s vicious campaign against immigrants when his first and third wives were immigrants.”
Another agreed: “Can you imagine if the turns were tabled and it was a Democratic candidate with the same immigrant and nuptial situation? Boy howdy…”
While a third wrote: “Send her [to] Guantanamo Bay!
“Or is that only for poor illegal immigrants? Those married to rich people get different treatment?”.
Another person said: “Looking forward to seeing video of her tackled outside of her favorite nail salon by ICE thugs in masks.”
The White House has yet to respond to these comments.
