Luke Bryan was seeing red when a fan threw something at him during a show.
During an Aug. 12 appearance on the Bobby Bones Show, the country star was asked about getting hit in the face with an object during his performance at the North Dakota State Fair in July.
“It was this little beach ball thing, like a hacky sack. When I’m sitting there singing, and I’m just doing my deal and it comes into my frame, obviously I flinched. It got me,” Bryan, 49, said, clarifying the size of the object that was thrown at him during his encore performance of “Country Girl (Shake It For Me).”
He noted that the “most frustrating thing” about the incident was that the ball’s size was blown out of proportion.
“But then the problem with it is, is then it makes all of my family members and friends that don’t have all the social media to go watch what actually happened, then they call me and then it turns into I got hit by, like I said, a baseball,” he continued.
When asked for his official statement on the podcast, Bryan didn’t mince his words. “My official statement is people throw things at artists and they’re idiots. It’s the deterioration of the moral fabric of how your a– ought to act,” he said.
“This is not a new thing. That was a great thing to get thrown at me. It was a little beach ball. I’ve had $1,100 cell phones get thrown at me,” he further shared.
Bryan explained that fans who wanted him to take a video from onstage would throw their phones at him, which Bones, 45, likened to throwing a rock at him. “Let’s just showcase entitlement,” Bryan said of fans throwing their phones, hoping for a video and to get it back.
“When the thing came in … the little ball or whatever it was came in, I mean, the first thing I do is … I see red, and I get my composure.” He added that it’s a “bunch of kids” being “silly.” “I got pissed for three seconds and finished it,” he concluded of the encore song.
In a fan’s TikTok video, Bryan wrapped up his set on Saturday, July 26 at the North Dakota State Fair when he was hit in the face with an object. The musician handled the slight interruption like a pro, appearing confused before carrying on.
Days later, he told Taste of Country about the incident. “It’s the last song of the night. It was a big ole fun party, and I think one person just took it too far,” he told the outlet. “We see it. Every other entertainer out there is getting stuff — you get stuff thrown at ya.”
“You hope that you can see who did it,” Bryan added.
“I mean, if I saw him throw it, I could have gone right to him,” the “Play It Again” singer added. “I probably would have jumped right off in there.”
Bryan said if he did pause the show to address the fan who threw an object at him, it ultimately “kills the vibe.”
