Prisoner Tries to Escape Courtroom During Recess — Gets Caught Minutes Later in Embarrassing Fashion

You’d think people would stop trying this — but apparently not. A courtroom in [City] erupted into chaos this week after a prisoner made a run for it the moment court went into recess.

According to officials, the man — who was in custody and facing multiple charges — waited until the judge stepped out before bolting through a side door and making a dash for the exit.

Witnesses say the man actually made it out of the courtroom and into a hallway before court officers noticed the movement and gave chase.

“He thought it was his moment,” said one courtroom staffer. “Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.”

Caught in Crocs

The escape didn’t last long. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the man slipping — literally

— near the building’s side stairwell, where officers quickly caught and restrained him.

He was wearing bright orange Crocs at the time, which didn’t help his stealth or speed.

“You could hear them squeaking,” one officer joked.

Now Facing Even More Charges

The inmate was immediately returned to custody and is now facing additional charges for attempted escape and obstruction.

The judge reportedly returned to the bench minutes later, took one look at the flustered courtroom, and said:

“Well… I suppose recess is over.”
