Nick Mangold, New York Jets Legend, Passes Away at 41

Nick Mangold, a beloved former center for the New York Jets, passed away at 41 on October 25, 2025, due to complications from kidney disease. The news, shared by the Jets, came just ten days after Nick made a heartfelt plea to his fans, asking for a kidney donor as he faced dialysis. His loss has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, teammates, and the entire Jets community.

Nick’s journey with kidney disease began nearly two decades ago when he was diagnosed with a genetic condition in 2006.

He opened up about his struggles in a moving Instagram post on October 14, shared by the Jets. “This isn’t easy to share,” he wrote, “but I want to be open about what’s been happening with my health.” He explained that after a challenging summer, he had begun dialysis while searching for a kidney transplant.

Nick had hoped for more time, but with no family members able to donate, he turned to the Jets’ fanbase for help, specifically seeking a donor with type O blood. “I’m deeply grateful to anyone who would consider donating,” he said, his words reflecting his humility and gratitude for his family, friends, and supporters.

On the field, Nick was a force. Drafted 29th overall in 2006 out of Ohio State, he played 171 games for the Jets, earning seven Pro Bowl nods and a place in the team’s Ring of Honor in 2022.

His leadership and grit defined an era of Jets football, with moments like his steady presence anchoring the offensive line against the Oakland Raiders in 2014 etched in fans’ memories. Off the field, Nick’s warmth and quick wit made him a cherished figure, someone who connected deeply with those around him. Jets Chairman Woody Johnson captured it best: “Nick was more than a legendary center. He was the heartbeat of our offensive line and a beloved teammate.”

Just last week, Nick’s legacy was further cemented when he was named among 52 Modern-Era players considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His impact stretched beyond the gridiron, touching the lives of those who knew him and the fans who cheered for him.

Nick leaves behind his wife, Jenny, and their four children—Matthew, Eloise, Thomas, and Charlotte—as well as a wide circle of family and friends. “Nick Mangold will forever be a Jet,” Johnson said, echoing the sentiments of countless fans mourning the loss of a true icon.
