A former St. Louis morning news anchor has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death of her 80-year-old mother last week.
Angelynn Mock, 47, claimed she stabbed Anita Avers multiple times “to save herself,” KAKE reported.
Wichita police did not provide any details about what happened Friday morning but said they found Avers “unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds.” Aver was rushed to St. Francis Hospital, where she was pronounce dead about 30 minutes later.
Police charged Mock with first degree murder.
Mock was a morning anchor for KTVI from 2011 to 2015, KMOV said.
Avers was a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist with Wichita Counseling Professionals.
According to KAKE, police were called to the scene by Mock herself, who borrowed a neighbor’s phone to make the 911 call. They arrived to find her outside, covered in blood.
Mock is being held in the Sedgwick County jail on a $1 million bond.
