Police in Surrey launched the Jog On campaign, sending female officers jogging in ordinary running clothes through areas known for harassment.

Within minutes, drivers were honking, slowing down, and shouting.

What Officers Experienced

Inspector John Vale said, “One of our officers was honked at within ten minutes… that’s how frequent it is.”

PC Abby Hayward added, “We get catcalled. We get honked at… it’s so common, but it’s harassment.”

Results and Accountability

The operation has led to 18 arrests for offenses including harassment and sexual assault.

In less serious cases, officers issued warnings and explained why the behavior was unacceptable.

Some men later apologized, admitting they “had not realized how serious it was.”

Why It Matters

Police say harassment is widely under-reported. Vale warned, “Your actions will not be tolerated,”

urging men to consider how they’d feel if it were their family.

The campaign is part of a broader effort to protect women in public spaces.
