Oaxacan nurse donates her organs and saves lives

In an act of generosity, Rosaura García Moreno, a 20-year-old from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, became a hero by donating her organs after being diagnosed with brain death.

After suffering a car accident that caused multiple fatal injuries, doctors notified his parents, who, in a gesture of solidarity, authorized the donation of his organs.

The surgical removal was performed by the High Specialty Medical Unit (UMAE) of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) at Specialty Hospital No. 14 of the “Adolfo Ruiz Cortines” National Medical Center in Veracruz. His liver was transferred to the “Siglo XXI” UMAE in Mexico City, while his kidneys and corneas benefited patients in Veracruz.

Rosaura, a nursing student at the University of Papaloapan, Tuxtepec campus, will be remembered as a woman in the white area who fulfilled her vocation of saving lives until the very last moment.

A single donor can save up to 8 lives and improve the quality of life for 50 more people.
