Celine Dion Shares a Touching Thanksgiving Message Amid Her Battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome

Celine Dion has been mostly out of the public eye since her heartbreaking diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome back in 2022. The iconic singer, whose voice has moved millions for decades, had to put her career on hold because of this rare and incurable neurological condition that causes intense muscle spasms and makes everyday life incredibly challenging.

In a raw interview last year, she described what the spasms feel like: “It’s like somebody is strangling you… like someone is pushing your larynx.” At first it started in her throat, affecting her ability to sing the way only she can, but the spasms can hit her abdomen, spine, ribs—pretty much anywhere. Walking can be difficult, and singing the way she’s used to? Almost impossible some days.

Life has thrown a lot at Celine. In 2016, just days apart, she lost both her husband René Angélil and her brother Daniel to cancer. She’s been raising their three boys—René-Charles and twins Nelson and Eddy—mostly on her own ever since. Through everything, she says her children are what keep her going.

“I’m the boss now,” she once told People magazine with that quiet strength she’s known for. From being the youngest of 14 kids who was always looked after, to suddenly making every big decision herself—she’s learned to find power in the pain.

Lately, she’s kept things very private. The last time many of us saw her was when she popped up with her sons at a Paul McCartney concert in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. But on Thanksgiving, the 57-year-old decided to reach out to her fans in the sweetest way.

In a short, heartfelt video on Instagram, Celine looked right into the camera and said:

“Dear friends, today is a beautiful reminder to slow down, take a deep breath, and give thanks. There’s something so powerful about gathering with the people you love—whether it’s around a full table, over the phone, or even just in your heart.”

She went on, smiling softly: “I’m so thankful to my family and our moments together that mean the world to me. May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, peace, and gratitude for everything… even the little things. Happy Thanksgiving, from me and my family to you and yours.”

In the caption she added: “Wishing everyone a beautiful and peaceful Thanksgiving! May your day be filled with love, gratitude, and precious moments with the people who mean the most to you. – Celine xx…”

It was such a gentle reminder from someone who’s been through so much to just pause and be thankful. Her voice might be quieter these days, but her heart is still singing loud and clear.

So… what’s your all-time favorite Celine song? Mine’s probably “Because You Loved Me” on repeat forever, but I’d love to know yours!
