Paul Walker’s Mom Says One Text Message Changed Everything

Paul Walker’s mother has heartbreakingly revealed that the actor only left home on the day he died because of a single text message. The Fast & Furious star was killed 12 years ago at the age of 40 in a tragic car crash in Los Angeles. Walker had been returning from a charity event with his friend, racing driver Roger Rodas, when the Porsche Carrera GT Rodas was driving lost control and crashed into a lamp post and two trees. Both men died instantly.

In the 2018 documentary I Am Paul Walker, his mother Cheryl shared one of the most emotional revelations about that day. She explained that Walker had actually planned to stay home. Sitting in the kitchen together, they talked about his excitement to see his daughter Meadow later that evening, with plans to decorate a Christmas tree during a break from filming Furious 7.

“He’d forgotten about an event,” Cheryl recalled. “Then he got a text and said, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m supposed to be somewhere.’” The event was a charity fundraiser organised by Walker’s foundation, Reach Out Worldwide, to support victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Cheryl said she expected him to return later that afternoon so they could carry on with their plans.

Walker’s sudden death shocked Hollywood and deeply impacted Furious 7, which was placed on hiatus before being rewritten and completed with stand-ins and visual effects. The film ultimately became an emotional farewell to the actor, whose legacy continues to resonate with fans around the world.
