Savannah Guthrie recently opened up about the tough conversations she’s having with her kids after her mom Nancy was taken from her home in Tucson. During a heartfelt interview on the Today show with Hoda Kotb, the news anchor shared how she’s trying to balance her own pain with protecting her children, eleven year old Vale and nine year old Charley.
She explained that it is never easy figuring out what to tell them because all you want is to shield them from the hurt. Vale has been reaching out a lot, sending messages asking if there are any new leads, if her mom has heard anything fresh, or if there is still any hope left in the search.

Savannah and her husband Mike Feldman do their best to talk openly with the kids, giving them as much honesty as they can while trying to offer a bit more reassurance than they actually feel themselves. The goal is to help them process things and begin to grieve in their own way.
The situation feels especially heavy for Savannah’s sister Annie and her family who live right nearby in Arizona. They were the ones checking in on Nancy every single day and helping her stay in the house where she raised her children, the same home filled with memories of Savannah’s dad who passed away suddenly when she was just sixteen.
That house meant everything to Nancy because it kept her close to those old family moments. Annie and her husband Tommaso gave her the space she needed while still being there for support, which makes the whole ordeal even more painful for them.

After spending some time out in Arizona with everyone, Savannah found it really hard to fly back to New York. She remembers looking out the plane window and just wondering where her mom could possibly be right now.
Nancy Guthrie, who is eighty four, was abducted from her home back on February first. Even after almost two months, the authorities have not named any suspects, and the family is still waiting for answers.

In the interview Savannah got emotional and questioned whether her own visibility from working on television might have somehow played a part in what happened. She said she truly hopes that is not the case but admitted they still know so little. The not knowing is the hardest part.
She even broke down and said sorry directly to her mom, to her sister and brother, to her own kids and nephew, and to her brother in law Tommy. If her fame brought any trouble to her mom’s door, she feels terrible about it.
