There has been a lot of criticism directed towards Taylor Swift because of the exorbitant fees fans have been paying to see her perform live.
However, it seems that one supporter’s hopes were realised. He was able to pay off his student loans by selling his ticket.
However, not everyone agrees with his choice to sell. The once-obscure country artist is now a household name.
Swift’s 2006 self-titled first album was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release, highlighted by a gushing profile in The New York Times.
The reviewers called it “a small masterpiece of pop-minded country, both wide-eyed and cynical, held together by Ms. Swift’s firm, pleading voice.”
Considering she started at age 16, she did really well for a complete rookie. The success of her career began with her second record.
‘Love Story’ and ‘White Horse’ helped catapult Swift to superstardom, and the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. And after that, she became a household name.
According to IMDb, Swift is “a multi-Grammy award-winning American singer/songwriter who, in 2010 at the age of twenty, became the youngest artist in history to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.”
These Amazon discounts are too good to pass up! Electronic mail Swift was also awarded as Billboard’s Woman of the Year in 2011.
Among her numerous honours, she has been awarded the Artist of the Year by the American Music Awards, as well as the Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
At the time of this writing, she has also sold more digital music than any other artist in history. New York University has even awarded Swift an honorary doctorate.
As “one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of her generation,” she deserved this honour. Of course, there were some hiccups along the way…
Nonetheless, she served as an example for other young women who want to get into the profession with their own material. However, not all was rosy…
Not until very recently did Swift open up about the difficult parts of her trip. Swift has had her share of unsuccessful romantic relationships.
And it seems she does this to add depth to her songs. Her failed romance with singer-songwriter John Mayer was one of her many blunders.
Mayer and Swift dated briefly from 2009 to 2010, when he was 32 and she was 19. From ‘Speak Now’ and ‘Dear John’ to a song on the deluxe version of her most recent album Midnights, the artist has penned a number of songs that have been speculated to be about Mayer.
‘Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve’ is the name of the song, and if you haven’t heard it yet, you should! However, the album’s massive popularity is much more noteworthy.
Midnights has broken several records since its debut, including the record for most streams in a day for an album on Spotify.
Taylor Swift has characterised her new album as “the stories of thirteen sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”
And that feeling of looking back is there throughout the record. Her own struggle with anorexia is one of the topics she discusses.
The actress first discussed the incident in her Miss Americana documentary, which can be seen on Netflix.
She said, “it’s not good for me to see pictures of myself every day,” adding, “it’s only happened a few times, and I’m not in any way proud of it.”
She elaborated, saying, “I’ve seen pictures of myself when my belly appeared excessively large, or… someone claimed that I looked pregnant… and that’s all it takes to make me quit eating altogether; that’s enough to make me hunger for a while.
In her new song “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” the singer opens out about facing adversity alone for the first time.
I threw parties and starved my body like I was going to be rescued by a beautiful kiss, Swift sings. But the lead track “Anti-Hero” is getting all the attention…
Some listeners were offended by a certain scenario in the song’s music video. The contentious scenario involves Swift’s evil clone ordering her to step on the scales as she stands in the restroom.
As she walks upon them, the camera pans down to see the scales have no numbers on them, only the word “FAT.” Some viewers, considering her background, found this particularly shocking.
I Love Taylor Swift, But There’s a Big Problem with Her New Video, was the headline of an article by Juliet James for HuffPost.
Worse still, James said, “I knew the second she stepped on that scale that…” Since fat-shaming is so common in our society.
Taylor Swift “has never been even slightly fat,” and this has always been the case. “But ‘fat’ isn’t a bad word” (and neither is “skinny,” she said). It’s a descriptor that’s been weaponized against its original meaning.
The subtle and hurtful messages about bodies that even slim women get in today’s society might lead them to “feel fat,” but this is different from being overweight.
“Someone who looks like Taylor will never understand how actually being fat feels,” the author said of Taylor.
But some have countered this viewpoint with vigorous defences of the star. Swift explained the song’s subject matter on Instagram, writing, “This song is a real guided tour throughout all the things I tend to hate about myself.”
According to her, the footage is a “real-time rendering of her worst nightmares and most intrusive thoughts.”
