A baby boy who was abandoned in a shoebox at a fire station in Kentucky was adopted, providing a response to a couple’s prayers.

Chris and Brittany Tyler, who lived in Louisville, struggled with infertility. When they heard about Sam, they had already adopted two boys. Chris said, “This is just an amazing story of grace being shown.” Sam was discovered in a baby box at the Louisville Fire Department.

“God’s hand is absolutely in this.” Chris Tyler said.

A note from his biological mother, filled with love, was left with him.

Newborns can be safely turned over to parents according to Kentucky’s Safe Haven Law. Sam’s health and safety were guaranteed by this law from the outset. “Our firefighters are very competent and capable, and very well versed on the law,” said Bobby Cooper of the Louisville Fire Department.

Brittany Tyler shared their adoption journey, stating, “We have been struggling with infertility for a long time.” The couple chose adoption as a way to grow their family.

Learning about Sam, Brittany prayed, “When I read his story, I prayed that we would be the home chosen to take him in.” Their prayers were answered, and soon, they were at the hospital, holding Sam, who weighed just 3 pounds. Sam’s arrival before Christmas was a blessing for them.

Memorable milestones from Sam’s adoption into the Tyler family included a first-birthday photo shoot and newborn pictures at the fire station. The fire department considers Sam part of its family, with Cooper saying, “We’re glad to be part of Sam’s story.”

The Tylers, who have fostered 17 children, are now adopting a fourth child, a baby girl.

God’s hand is at work in our lives, turning our prayers into miracles. Let us see every adoption story like Sam’s as a reminder of His grace and love in action.
