Adam was Jen’s dad, and he never thought Matt, her boyfriend, was right for her. From the start, Adam didn’t like Matt and always spoke badly about him.
Matt loved Jen and didn’t want Adam interfering in their relationship, even though Adam often tried to cause problems between them.
Jen reassured Matt that her dad would eventually come around and accept him. She explained that he had done the same thing with her sister’s husband when they got engaged.
Matt’s family all loved him, even though Adam tried hard to ruin his relationship with Jen.
One evening, they were at Jen’s parents’ house for dinner. Jen was planning to propose to Matt in front of everyone, and Matt had been saving up for her ring for months.
But Matt noticed that Adam kept smiling at him. This made Matt feel uneasy, as he was sure Adam had something on his mind.
Just as Matt was about to propose to Jen, Adam stood up and said, “Before the night ends, I have something to share with everyone!”
“Matt was seen with another woman a few days ago,” Adam continued. “They looked very close. Here’s the picture!”
When Matt looked at the TV, he was shocked to see a photo of himself sitting next to a woman in a public place.
“This is ridiculous, Dad! I don’t get why you’re so upset!” Jen said, thinking her father had faked the pictures.
Matt had reached his limit. He told Jen he had planned to propose to her that night, but after what happened, he changed his mind.
He got up and left the dinner.
Jen explained to Matt that the woman in the pictures was actually his sister from a recent dinner, which he missed. She said if her dad’s photographer had shown up just five minutes later, she would have been in the pictures too
Jen and her mom shouted at Adam, accusing him of ruining his daughter’s life. They warned that if he didn’t fix things right away, he’d end up alone in the house, as they’d leave him.
Half an hour later, someone knocked urgently on Matt’s door. When Matt opened it, he saw Adam there, kneeling. Adam apologized and pleaded for Matt to return and propose to his daughter again, promising he would never interfere with their relationship again.
Adam finally understood that instead of keeping his daughter safe, he was actually making her life harder. She was with someone who truly loved her and would always protect her, even trying to protect her from her own dad.
