A heartbroken man was conned out of his money by a fake Jennifer Aniston fraudster.
Paul Davies from Southampton claimed he thought he was talking to the real actress on social media and that ‘Jennifer’ had asked him to send her £200 to pay for her “Apple subscriptions”.
Davies claimed to have been singled out by AI scammers pretending to be celebrities. The 43-year-old shared that he also received deep fakes from other scammers posing as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.
He claimed that when the Jennifer Aniston fake sent him a photo of her drivers license, he fell victim to the scammer. They also told him they ‘loved him’.
He shared: “I’ve had fake videos from Jennifer Aniston saying she loves me and asking for £200. I believed it – and I paid.”
“I got bitten. “Once bitten, twice shy.” he added.
Davies sent £200 worth of non-refundable Apple gift cards to who he thought was Aniston.
The scammer warned Paul not to contact Facebook as “you don’t want problems”.
This comes after an increase in AI deep fake scammers using videos of celebs to try and convince their victims they are who they say they are. The videos use celeb faces and voices to imitate the real deal.
Paul shared that he has been harassed by many deep fake videos, promising him that he has won big prizes – one of which showed a fake Mark Zuckerberg telling him : “This is not a scam – believe me”.
Paul shared: “They make it look so real,”, “It’s been going on for five months. I thought someone would get in trouble for this, but they seem to be having a laugh – and getting away with it.”
This comes after another Facebook user pretending to be Brad Pitt scammed a woman out of almost £700k.
